Every single time I head to a photo shoot I get super nervous. I'll admit it- I have no idea what I'm doing. No really, I don't. I don't know how to use my camera nearly as well as I should, theres a lot of things about it that I couldn't even tell you what they are supposed to do! I get major anxiety that the shoot is going to be horrible and the family is going to feel like they wasted their time. I'm not super professional, and I probably voice my thoughts way more than necessary (surprise!).
But whenever I get to this point of the process, I'm amazed at what I was able to capture.
Not because the photos are excellent quality- in fact, I'm pretty sure 2 or 3 of these have blurry hands and feet of toddlers. But because somehow, someway...
love shines through. Joy shines through.
The reality of life is always apparent in my photos. I think that's my favorite thing about photography- it doesn't always have to be pristine, or clear, or perfectly poised. It's real, sometimes funny, sometimes all over the place. It can allow you into the emotions and unspoken words between people.
I love this family so much. I've been blessed to be able to photograph them since Jenna was a newborn, and I grew up with Shelby and Jason. They are comfortable with me and that surely helps. But perhaps my favorite thing is their confidence in me. They would probably shake their head and laugh if I told them they make me nervous! I know they could have plenty of other photographers-professional ones- capture these moments, but they choose me. Time and time again...and it means more than they know.
