It's that time again! For The 2026 Better Newspaper Contest is now open!!!!!!
This is only open to MPA Members

The rules are on the Contest page on the website. https://michiganpress.org/contests-and-awards-2/

Below are points to remember:

The Contest is open from August 1 through October 2, 2026.
The eligible entry period for the contest is August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. Entries must have run between those dates, or the majority of the content must run during that time frame.
Make sure all entries are entered before October 2. Don’t wait until the last minute to enter the contest.
2026 and past dues balance must be paid or have a payment arrangement set up before the October 2 deadline, or your entries will be disqualified.
Must register when you enter the contest
When Registering the Association code MPA26 (case-sensitive)
Read the rules on the first page of the contest website. They are also in the rules.
Make sure you read the rules not only on the cover page of the Contest website but also our rules as well.

REMINDER: Be sure to read the rules carefully to make sure you are entering the correct categories.

Contest Period: August 1, 2026 - October 2, 2026
Entry Deadline: 11:59 PM, October 2, 2026
Work must have been published between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026

If you know someone planning to enter a freelance writer's work that was not published in an MPA member newspaper, or if you know of a new print or digital publication that would like to participate in the 2026 Better Newspaper Contest.

Please make sure they become a member of the Michigan Press Association by September 15, so their work is eligible.

Dues must be paid (or a payment arrangement must be in place) before entering the contest. Entries submitted by members with unpaid dues will be disqualified.
