These 2 pictures show why you must communicate with your landscaper. Deck heights set too low. Causes 'scalping". Over time will cause die-off. After mowing, each blade should be 1.5 to 2 inches tall.

These 2 pictures show what can happen to new sod if it is not cared for initially. In this case, it was not properly irrigated after installation. Re-sod is the only answer here.
