COOLER NIGHTS. SMALL OPENINGS. A WARM PLACE TO HIDE. 🦇

As temperatures drop, bats begin moving toward protected winter roosts. Unfortunately, an opening along your roofline, soffit, ridge vent, chimney, or siding may let them into your attic or walls.

Bats can become much quieter during colder weather, so homeowners often assume they have left.

But silence doesn’t guarantee an empty attic.

A professional inspection can help identify:

✅ Potential entry points
✅ Visible bat activity
✅ Droppings, staining, and contamination
✅ Vulnerable roof and construction areas
✅ The proper exclusion plan for your home

Cold weather doesn’t seal the opening.

🍂 TODAY IS THE FIRST FULL DAY OF FALL!

The cooler nights have arrived—and bats are beginning to look for protected places to spend the colder months.

While some bats migrate, others move into winter hibernation sites called hibernacula—usually sheltered areas that remain above freezing, such as attics, walls, soffits, and other protected spaces in Michigan homes. If bats already have access to your attic, they may stay there throughout the winter rather than leaving.

If nearby neighbors have recently had bats removed, those bats may begin searching for a new hibernaculum. If your home has accessible openings, they may move into your attic and add to an existing colony.

As activity slows, the bats may become quiet—but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re gone.

Watch for:

🦇 Bats flying near your roofline at dusk
🦇 Droppings around the exterior or attic
🦇 Staining near soffits, vents, or roof gaps
🦇 Scratching or movement inside walls
🦇 A bat unexpectedly entering the living space

Don’t wait until winter to find out what may be inside your home.

Schedule your professional bat inspection with My Bat Guy.

🦇 Would You Have Spotted This Bat?

Most homeowners picture bats hanging upside down in plain sight—but this is how we often find them: tucked tightly into an eave, nearly flat against the wood and extremely easy to overlook.

As summer winds down, you may notice less activity around your home. But quiet doesn’t necessarily mean the bats are gone. They can remain hidden in small gaps and protected areas you would never see from the ground.

That’s why properly solving a bat problem involves more than finding one visible opening. We inspect the entire structure—from the foundation to the roof peak—to locate active entry points and other areas bats could use.

Take another look at this picture—would you have noticed it without knowing where to look? 👀

🦇 **Summer Is Ending—but Bat Activity Isn’t!**

As summer winds down and cooler fall weather approaches, bats begin changing their seasonal habits. This is often when homeowners notice scratching in the walls, chirping in the attic, bats near rooflines—or even an unexpected visitor inside the house.

These photos show exactly how bats can tuck themselves into tight, hidden spaces around a home. They only need an opening about **3/8 of an inch** to get inside!

If you’ve noticed bat activity, don’t wait until the problem becomes larger. A professional inspection can identify active entry points, potential openings, and signs of an established colony.

✅ Complete attic and exterior inspection
✅ Humane bat-exclusion solutions
✅ Sealing from the foundation to the roof peak
✅ Warranty-backed professional service

🦇 Why are so many bats showing up inside Michigan homes right now?

I recently spoke with Dave Bondy about the seasonal increase in bat activity and what homeowners need to know. Late summer and early fall are especially active times because young bats are flying on their own, colonies are beginning to move, and bats may accidentally enter living spaces.

If you find a bat inside—especially in a room where someone was sleeping—do not touch it or immediately release it. Keep people and pets away, contact your local health department regarding possible exposure, and call a trained My Bat Guy bat-removal professional at Bat Removal & Prevention Inc

Thank you, Dave, for giving My Bat Guy the opportunity to help educate and protect our community!

🦇 CAN YOU FIND THE BAT? 👀

This little visitor picked the perfect hiding place among all the stuffed animals!

Take a close look at the photo. If you find it, comment “FOUND IT!”—but don’t give away its location so everyone else can play!

Would you have noticed it hiding there? 😳

If you discover a bat inside your home, don’t attempt to handle it with bare hands. Keep people and pets away and call a professional for assistance.

🦇 THIS is why you should never ignore a bat inside your home.

A doctor recently woke up to something most people would consider a nightmare — a bat attempting to get into her mouth while she was sleeping. 😳

Thankfully, the bat was captured and later tested negative for rabies, but this story is an important reminder of why a bat found inside your living space needs to be taken seriously.

⚠️ Bat bites can be extremely small and may not always be noticeable — especially if you were sleeping.

If you wake up and discover a bat in a bedroom, don’t simply release it outside and forget about it. Contact your local health department or medical provider for guidance regarding possible rabies exposure.

And remember…

🏠 A bat inside your home got in somehow.

Removing that one bat doesn’t necessarily solve the problem.

Your home should be inspected to determine how the bat got inside, where bats may be entering the structure, and whether additional bats could be using the home.

At My Bat Guy, we specialize in professional bat inspections, removal and complete structural bat exclusion designed to address the problem at its source — not just remove the bat you happened to see.

Now we have to ask… 👇

💬 What would YOU do if you woke up and found a bat in your bedroom?

A. Try to catch it yourself 😳
B. Get out of the room immediately 🚪
C. Call a professional 📞
D. Probably move out 😂

👇 Drop A, B, C or D in the comments!

And tag the person you KNOW would choose D. 😂🦇

🦇 Think you might have bats? Look for the signs.

Bat activity isn’t always obvious. Sometimes the biggest clue is what they leave behind.

💩 Bat droppings on the siding
💩 Guano collecting in gutters or below an entry point
🔍 Small openings around rooflines, flashing, soffits and siding can be all a bat needs to get inside.

If you’re finding droppings around your home, don’t just clean them up—the important part is figuring out where the bats are getting in and properly sealing the structure.
