This needs to be read by everyone.
I have been having trouble with my computer for several weeks. The computer has been sent back to factory status. Windows 10 has been uploaded.
I couldn't get Microsoft Office to work. I am a member of Geek Squad. They told me I couldn't upload without my "Key". Every time I was on Microsoft web-site, I was continually asked for my key. I kept making attempts to find the key and could not.
I ran across a web-site that looked to be a Microsoft Office 365 official site. I was able to contact someone via chat. They sent a message saying I needed to make a $1.00 deposit that would be refunded. I kept looking. After several hours, I decided to pay the $1.00. I was notified via my card company a charge of $55 was being charged to my account that looked fraudulent. I immediately texted back NO! The company sent me a new card. I kept trying over a course of 3 days and found an official site that allowed me to upload without a key. Fortunately, I had the information I needed to bypass the key.
My Brother printer was not working properly. It was working, but the scan portion was too complicated. Again, I spent hours with Geek Squad to no avail. I got on the internet and was fortunate enough to chat with an agent. They wanted to remote access my computer. I have done remote access many times over the years and never questioned because I made the initial contact. My wife called me to come up for dinner. I chatted to the agent that I was going to dinner and would be back as soon as possible. I didn't wait for a response.
When I came back, they were still waiting. How nice of them. I sent a text to let them know I was back. They let me know the technician would be with me shortly.
God has a way of working things out. A feeling came over me that felt like a train about to drag me down the tracks. I sent them a text back telling them I didn't feel good about the remote access with them and left the chat. I haven't heard from the "scammer" since.
About two minutes late I was able to contact an agent from Brother. This time it was a Brother agent They wanted to send me to another technician that could take care of the problem. The agent wasn't able to solve it. The problem was beyond his expertise. I found out they DO NOT have the ability to do remote access. Due to the hours I had been on the computer I decided to postpone the chat and contact them later. However, the problem is solved.
I wasn't ripped off by either scammer. No one got into my computer to find info that I wouldn't want them to have. God put that in my heart and mind. He has always looked out for me.
Think about it. I have never hesitated to allow someone I contacted to remote access to help fix a computer problem. Be careful. The cons; the scammers have sites that really look official. I thank God for taking care of me all the time. He is my SAVIOUR.
