Communication Across the Disciplines Speaker Series: Cynthia Hedge

Time and Location: Monday, December 15th from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. CT in the Ivy Tech Valparaiso Auditorium

About the Speaker:
Cynthia Hedge worked in the legal community for many years, as an attorney, including Prosecuting Attorney for La Porte County. She is also the co-founder of the Center for Creative Solutions. Throughout her career she has served as a passionate community leader, inspiring others with her view of service to the community as her civic duty.
During her presentation, Cynthia Hedge will discuss how creativity has inspired her successful career, and share how others can use creativity and communication to impact their lives and the community!

About the Speaker Series:
Welcoming community speakers on campus will both further demonstrate the importance of communication and strengthen community at our College. With this series, we are including speakers from a diverse range of disciplines to demonstrate how foundational communication skills are. Extracurricular activities such as this have also been shown to increase student sense of belonging with a college or university, in turn increasing student success and retention.

Join us this Friday, November 7, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Michigan City’s Old Lighthouse Museum at 100 Heisman Harbor Road, as we celebrate the work of our talented local authors. The dunes country of Northwest Indiana is home to a great number of talented artists including those who have mastered the skill of storytelling; perhaps it is something in the fresh lake air that inspires such abundance of creativity.

Featured authors joining us for the evening include Amy Black, Bill Bierly, John Davies, Paul Marshall, Scott Simerlein, Brett Starr, Barry Veden, Matt Werner, and Sandy Young, each bringing their own unique stories and local perspectives.

We have invited several of these talented local writers to the Old Lighthouse Museum to share their stories with you. Join us for an evening of lively conversation, music, and charcuterie.

What does it take to pen an interesting tale, what are sources of inspiration, how can a story, book or article be marketed, why do you write?

Admission to the museum for the evening will be free; take a tour and enjoy an evening of enlightened entertainment.
