There is a big responsibility in letting go of our loved ones. An unconditional obligation in honoring life as it comes to an end.
As an advocate for seniors, my work has revolved around providing as many opportunities for seniors to enhance their “Golden Years”. I have learned to use unconventional methods, to look for opportunities and options that setup our seniors for success. To advocate for every human being: no mater their race, education, sexual orientation or creed. But nothing in my experiences prepared me for the profound beauty and responsibility of helping our seniors maximize these experiences as they grow older.
It was not until I begin my journey into hospice, about eight years ago, that I truly began to understand that there is a path to celebrate the experiences of our seniors. There is a physical aspect, an emotional aspect, a spiritual aspect, and even the social aspect in different communities. While the experience was deeply liberating, I could only “talk the talk” about hospice care for the ones that we love very deeply. When my father, Rodolfo “Rudy” Tiroy Timbal, recently passed on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, after fifteen months under hospice care, from Unified Hospice and Aspen Hospice, I can now say that I am uniquely qualified to talk about hospice care.
There is a new inspiration within me to provide more than just symptom control to individuals under hospice care, and their families. I believe in a “whole body experience” for the individual, that I call the “Eyes On The Prize” Hospice Plan. It is a fluid and dynamic plan for end-of-life care that seeks best practices in allowing individuals and families to “control the narrative”. Not only to minimize their pain, but to promote peace, presence, respect and dignity in those final memories. Just like my father experienced, when he passed away on that Tuesday night in April. Thank you for the inspiration: Rudy and Rose Timbal, The Timbal Family, The Valdeavilla family, Maegan Padilla, Alexis Calipusan, Nick Gambino, David Schafer, Anita McGee, Monica Lindburg, Dennis Silva, Heather Waterlond, Jerome De Jesus, Patrick Utley, Jeremy Holmes, McKay Meyer, Robert Wren, Dr. Timothy Beckett, MD, Dr. O, MD, Mark Jackson, Dr. Emeka Iroha, MD, Wendy Arafpo, FNP, Theo Akoh, FNP, Alicia Tokay, Sabrina Patrick, Hermee Galang, Brian Crisci, Jesse Harvey, PA-C, Ashley Antoneth Suarez, PA-C, Carolyn Schmidt, Pastor Grace Thompson, and all the families that I was able help have the best hospice experience.
I would like to invite everyone in the Las Vegas community, especially, but also from anywhere else, to please contact me at [email protected]. I can also be reached at 702-308-5629. I want you all to be a part of the “Eyes On The Prize” Hospice Partnership. Please help me spread the word of making hospice a better way to care for our loved ones in their end-of-life issues. I do not care what hospice agency you work for, what mobile medical services company you own, or what PCA agency you use. I believe that home health agencies, physical therapy businesses, everyone in our communities, has a vested interest in “helping out” our fellow human being. To me, that means bringing the best hospice care to our communities and to our loved ones. I want to get this started immediately!
In addition, I am announcing a joint venture with Senior Resources Nevada, and Senior Resources America. Senior Resources Nevada is one of only four placement agencies licensed by the state of Nevada. Thank you to Jon Sussman and Chris Mirando for allowing me the opportunity to promote this non-profit’s mission. It is the only licensed, non-profit placement agency that looks to help seniors in Nevada, to be able to find appropriate housing solutions. That may mean finding a licensed residential care home, a skilled nursing facility, a memory care community, et cetera. Whatever is the best option for the client! I will be reaching out to many of you, because this is a growing movement. A movement to change how we live our life to its full completion. I will be asking each of you for your help in making difference. Whether it is a donation, a conversation, a connection, or a willingness to spread this message, your support can help us change the way people experience their life, especially at end of life.
Thank you!
