This week, we'll give you tips on how to identify if it's too loud. "dB" is shorthand for "decibels" :
- Whispering - 30dB
- Conversation - 60dB
- Busy traffic - 70 to 85dB
- Motorbike - 90dB (8hr max please)
- Headphones maxed out - 100 to 110dB (2hrs please)
- Plane taking off - 120dB
Sounds over 85dB can be harmful if you're exposed to it for a long time. It's loud enough to damage your hearing if :
- You have to raise your voice to talk.
- You can't hear what people nearby are saying.
- It hurts your ears.
- There's ringing in your ears or muffled hearing afterward.
Blasting your music through the headphones or earphones is dangerous. To avoid hearing damaging :
- Use noise-canceling earphones or headphones.
- Turn the volume up just enough so you can hear your music comfortably.
- Limit Earphones or headphones usage, 1hr, then a 5 min break.

This week we'll help you deal with those spring allergies, starting with - use an air conditioner, you'll want to keep windows and doors shut as much as possible to limit the amount of pollen entering your home and car. Also, avoid outdoor activities or exercise early in the day, instead, engage in these activities in the afternoon or evening, since tree pollen is heaviest in the morning and tends to dissipate as the day goes on. When you do go out, wearing a cap and sunglasses may help alleviate eye symptoms.
Wash it away - Change clothes when you go inside, and consider showering and washing your hair before bedtime, even if it's just with water. This helps rid your hair and scalp of accumulated pollen that could otherwise end up on your pillow, where you can inhale it. You'll also want to wash your clothing frequently, and don't go to bed in the same clothes you wore during the day.

Spring is allergy season for a lot of people, so maybe invest in a HEPA air purifier. They're very good at getting tiny particles out of the air to stop you and others from sneezing. Also, check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms - it's crucial that they work if there is an emergency. While you're at it, spring is a great time to check other batteries around your home as well. If you feel like going the extra mile, Amazon has an air quality monitor. Check your lights: Since spring rain hinders driving visibility, make sure all your lights work, including headlights, taillights, backup lights, turn signals, parking lights, and brake lights. Replace your wiper blades: Worn-out wiper blades may not be up to the task of clearing water away from your windshield. Check your wiper blades and replace them if necessary (usually once a year). Slow down and drive carefully: The first few rainy days of spring can produce exceptionally slippery roads due to oil and other leaked fluids mixing with rainwater, so slow down and increase your stopping distance when it's raining.

Ever hear the tale of how a US pilot in WWII got a medal for shooting down another US plane? No? Well do we have a tale for you! Bonus mini-story in there too that adds a whole new meaning to getting "shot down" when it comes to love.

In many states, winter wreaks havoc on the roads. Snow plows, salt, sand, and the aftermath of ice can all leave roads a bit battered. Once the snow melts away, expect to drive over new potholes. Animals are incredibly active during the spring. Some are emerging from hibernation, and others are entering mating season. This could mean that more animals are crossing streets and roaming around. Many animals, especially deer, are most active at dawn or dusk. Spring also brings cyclists out of hibernation. Driving alongside cyclists can make traffic maneuvers, from turning right to parallel parking, more dangerous.

This week, Driving In A Lightning Storm. Safely pull to the side of the road. Turn on the emergency blinkers, turn off the engine, and don't touch metallic objects that connect to the outside of the car - like door and window handles, radio dials, gearshifts or the steering wheel. Simply wait out the storm. If you're in a hard top, stay inside your car with the windows rolled up. You're much safer inside a vehicle than outside, advises FEMA. Soft tops provide less protection; so if you're driving one, it's best to find another shelter. Remain in your car for at least 30 minutes after hearing the last clap of thunder, advises NOAA.

With the nationwide deep freeze, this week from Geico, Driving In A Blizzard. Make sure you’re driving slowly; give yourself more time than you think you need to turn or brake. Make yourself as visible as you can to others on the road. Turn on your headlights, including fog lights if you have them. Consider turning on your hazard lights, too, if you drop below the speed limit.
If the whiteout conditions obstruct your view or you don’t feel you can control your car, look for the nearest exit to wait out the storm. If there’s no other option, when safely possible, pull to the side of the road, turn on your hazard lights, and wait for the whiteout to subside. It’s safer if you can get to a shoulder of a road, where cars are moving slower; that will help reduce the chance of a high-speed accident.

This week it's flash flood safety. If you evacuate an area due to flooding, be certain that floodwaters have receded before returning. If you come upon a flooded or barricaded road while driving, turn around and go the other way. Your vehicle can float off the road when there's just three inches of moving water, says James Solomon of the National Safety Council. Six inches of water could cause your car to stall. If you're caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground.

This week, Geico has tips for driving in heavy rain. Turn on your lights but not your high beams; the extra-bright light from high beams can reflect off the water and shine back into your eyes. Slow down when the roads are wet. Stay below the speed limit, and leave five seconds or more of following distance between your car and the car in front of you. A few times a month, clean the outsides and insides of windshields and windows, and inspect your windshield wiper blades for wear. Check the level of your washer fluid at least once a month.

With 's help, we're spreading the word on how to drive in extreme weather. If you're going to Mt. Charleston, they have some pointers for driving in snow. Even if there's only a dusting of snow, slow down; you'll need more time to react to unexpected situations. Braking ability can be severely impaired in snow, so leave at least eight seconds between you and the vehicle in front. Even in light snow, when compared with dry conditions, it can take up to double the distance to stop. If at all possible, don't stop on inclines (like highway ramps), where you risk losing traction. And take special care driving downhill.

Wait a minute, this isn't Mt. Charleston, this is Hoth! While we're here, let's enjoy a tour of Echo Base before breaking out the map and getting back on track.

This week, we're getting some help from the Nevada Department of Transportation, for more tips and tricks, you can dial 511 (1-877-NV-ROADS outside of Nevada) or log onto www.nvroads.com for Nevada state road conditions.
For winter weather, plan ahead, expect delays, and leave early. Better to arrive early at work one day, than racing through traffic only to wreck your car and miss the whole day.
When you leave for your journey, remember to buckle up, turn on the headlights to be easier to see and see dangers to you and your car, and try not to use cruise control. Reducing your speed will help too. Speed limits are based on normal road and weather conditions, not winter road conditions.
If you find yourself parked or stuck in snow, leave a window slightly cracked for ventilation, fresh air never hurt anyone, and make sure vehicle exhaust system is clear of snow.

So, let's say you've gotten yourself in trouble with the police and they arrest you. Guess it's time for that one phone call . . . or is it? Turns out Nevada's a little nicer than the rest when it comes to this "rule". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZMSef3WLlE

When work's over and you're heading home for the day, don't remove those gloves or mittens just yet. Keeping your hands in your pockets increases the risk of you falling or completely losing your balance and suffering worse injuries in case you slip while walking on ice or snow. Gloves sure look fashionable but donning mittens can actually save your life. With your fingers touching each other inside mittens, they generate more body heat than when they're inside gloves.
