ACCESSIBILITY SHOULD NEVER BE AN AFTERTHOUGHT.

This project began after an accessibility concern was identified during an ADA inspection. The existing credential reader was positioned too close to the entrance, requiring a person using a wheelchair—or anyone with limited mobility—to move into the path of the swinging door before presenting their credential.

The concrete pathway and mounting pad were prepared for us, and our technician Kelly installed a remote pedestal with an HID keypad reader. The new location gives users a safer and more practical place to present their credential before approaching the entrance.

Access control is about more than controlling who can enter a building. Reader placement, door operation, approach paths, and the way people actually use the opening all matter.

A system may function electronically and still create a poor or unsafe experience for the person trying to enter. That is why A&B evaluates the complete opening—not just the reader or lock.

Good security should be reliable, practical, and accessible to everyone.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

A look back at one of our past projects featuring two generations of A&B’s electronics team.

On one side is Leroy, who has been working in this industry for more years than I can accurately put a number on. His experience, practical knowledge, and old-school approach to getting the job done have been an important part of A&B for many years.

Alongside him is Joe, representing a newer generation of the industry—learning from the people who helped build it while also keeping up with the technology and systems shaping security today.

The equipment and technology may continue to change, but experience, quality workmanship, and taking pride in the finished product never go out of style.
