PRSA - Las Vegas We are the Las Vegas Valley chapter of the Public Relations Society of America - PRSA Las Vegas

The Public Relations Society of America (www.prsa.org), based in New York City, is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. The Society has more than 31,000 professional and student members. PRSA is organized into 109 Chapters nationwide, 19 Professional Interest Sections, along with Affinity Groups, which represent business and industry, counseling firms, independent practitioners, military, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations. The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has 280 Chapters at colleges and universities-including University of Nevada, Las Vegas-throughout the United States. The Las Vegas Valley Chapter strives to accommodate the varied experience levels of its members. We offer associate memberships to practitioners with less than two years of experience or who are immediate past members of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Member status is reserved for individuals who devote a substantial portion of their time to the professional practice of public relations or teaching and administering public relations courses at an accredited college or university. The chapter sponsors monthly luncheon seminars, frequent mixers, various professional development seminars throughout the year, and an annual awards program called the Pinnacle Awards. Currently, the chapter is home to more than 100 public relations practitioners. Guests are always welcome and, of course, membership is encouraged.

This Ethics Month, we’re reflecting on PRSA’s Code of Ethics and the principles that guide how we make ethical decisions, build trust and show up with transparency and authenticity in our work.

At our September ethics panel, we explored what it means to navigate the gray, make ethical decisions and apply those principles not only in our profession, but in our everyday lives.

Jennifer McDonnell, APR, our chapter’s Ethic Chair and who moderated the discussion, reflects on the conversation and how it connects back to the six core principles of the PRSA Code of Ethics in our latest thought leadership piece.

Read the full blog and revisit insights from the panel at the link in our bio.

The PRSA Code of Ethics helps guide communicators in making responsible, ethical decisions and building trust with the audiences we serve.

In honor of Ethics Month, the PRSA Las Vegas Valley Chapter is highlighting the six core values of the Code, breaking down what each means and what it looks like in practice.

Up next: Fairness.

Fairness means treating clients, colleagues, competitors, media and the public with respect while recognizing differing opinions and/or perspectives.

In practice, that means advocating for your client without unfairly undermining others, giving proper credit where it’s due, being transparent about conflicts of interest and sharing accurate information without manipulating facts.

Explore the full PRSA Code of Ethics at the link in our bio to see how these principles can guide your everyday decision-making.

In honor of Ethics Month, the PRSA Las Vegas Valley Chapter is highlighting the six core values of the Code, breaking down what each means and what it looks like in practice.

Another core value communications must consider is Loyalty.

Loyalty means being faithful to those we represent while maintaining our responsibility to communicate honestly and ethically.

In practice, that means protecting confidential information, acting in your client’s or organization’s best interests, being upfront about conflicts of interest and providing honest counsel.

Take a closer look at the PRSA Code of Ethics at the link in our bio to consider how Loyalty shows up in your own work.

Our next core value is Independence!

Independence means providing objective counsel to those we represent and taking accountability for our actions.

In practice, that means speaking up when something isn’t the right approach, making recommendations based on facts and expertise and keeping our clients’ or organizations’ best interests in mind while maintaining our professionalism.

Explore the six values that guide ethical communication and see how they can show up in your work–read the full PRSA Code of Ethics at the link in our bio.
