Ugh! Miscommunicated a task, which caused an extra week of work on a client’s project. Have to waive the client’s final $500 balance because that was totally on us. It was an internal miscommunication and not something the client miscommunicated to us.

We built our brands on communication and even teach this in our leadership programs, as well as our entrepreneur and business owner cohorts. Time to go back and revisit our own curriculum and content, and then practice what we teach because miscommunications cost both time and money . . . for all parties involved.

Yesterday at the Small Business Input Committee Town Hall, Path To Connections cofounder, Joylynn M. Ross, presented a session on storytelling, pitching, and the use of AI in both.

When presenting, Joylynn is always complimented on how confident she is when delivering. "I don't wear nor carry humbleness as an accessory. Neither do I find humbleness a necessity to 'win people over,'" Joylynn states. "Fake humbleness is not my cup of tea - and I can always detect it in others. Your humbleness has its place, which is in your story; Take it from a Subject Matter Expert in Storytelling. And your success highlight reel has its place as well, in your pitch."

Joylynn practices what she teaches. Which is why she can stand before any crowd and let them know that when it comes to storytelling and content creation that brings awareness to their brand and customers to their business, the tea here at Path To Connections is not the best choice . . . we're the only choice. We are national best-selling authors and writers (creative, business, copywriters), we are award-winning publishers. We are professional speakers and writers of speeches. We're script and cinematic writers and storytellers. Storytelling is in our DNA. We have two universal writing and storytelling formulas - B.O.S.S.(TM) and H.E.A.R.T.(TM) that no one can implement and execute the way we do.

See, when you know exactly who you are, what you do, and the impact and transformation that results in what you do (as well as how to relay your capabilities, qualifications, experience, and expertise), you don’t need humbleness to fall back on. Besides, when you are trying to get people to invest in you, they don't need humbleness, they need receipts.

"I'm 55 years old," Joylynn continues. "You best believe God has humbled me many of times. Which is why I don't mind directing people to where my humbleness resides . . . which is in my story. But my success - that God has blessed me with in spite of and because of my story - is in my pitch."

Storytelling. Pitching. And how to and not to use AI in the unearthing and crafting of both. Welcome to our universe. And if you want to make it a part of yours, reply to this email with your needs, and we'll reply to your email with a quote.

The best is always yet to come . . . when you work with the best!

"Thirty years in business," says Path To Connections Co-Founder Joylynn M. Ross, "and I've been asked to serve on several boards.
When deciding to be a part of a board of directors, I know it takes much more than being in alignment with the organization's vision, mission, and goals. I know it takes more than having the heart and desire to be an advocate for the clients the organization serves and the assets they protect."

Ross continues, "I know the time investment and commitment that comes with being an active board member. It takes work to achieve the outcomes and results needed to reach the organization's defined measure of success. Passion simply isn't enough to be an effective board member. That's why no matter how honored or passionate I've been about the invitations I've received, I've had to decline. There was just never enough room on my plate to 100% commit. And with me, it's all or nothing.

"But when the Small Business Input Committee - the voice, champion, and advocate for MBEs (Minority Business Enterprises) certified through Western Regional Minority Supplier Development Council (WRMSDC) an affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council extended an invitation to become a board member," Ross said, "it was a fast and easy "Yes!" Since becoming certified through WRMSDC after the pandemic, I've already been doing the work required of my board position. So, it only made sense to officially partner with and be a part of something bigger than me and my efforts alone."

Individually, we make a difference, but together we make an impact. So, we're excited to share with you the SBIC Las Vegas Golf Tournament & Town Hall Meeting taking place Thursday, April 23, 2026 . . . where an impact and connections will be made!

We work hard to build, grow, and scale successful businesses. Let's play hard while doing it.

The cost to register for the Town Hall portion of the day's event is only $30. This includes food, drinks, Business Bingo, and the opportunity to enter the Pitch Competition. And a value can't be placed on the carved out dedicated time for connections and relationship building . . . because it's priceless!

The golf portion of the day is an additional fee. But the first 8 people to register for the Town Hall and answer the trivia question (When was the WRMSDC founded?) get to golf for free!
Attend in person or be present in brand and spirit with your much appreciated sponsorship and/or donation, which is a tax write-off. Or even better, do both! Learn the many ways you can participate and benefit from this event by visiting https://wrmsdc.regfox.com/wrmsdc-sbic-las-vegas-golf-tournament-town-hall.

Just don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to mix business with pleasure, and to connect with businesses, corporations, and organizations looking to collaborate, partner, and do business with you.

And please pass this on to business owners here in Las Vegas, Nevada who would benefit from making connections with, building relationships with, and doing business with other businesses and corporations here in Las Vegas. Again, individually we make a difference, but together we make an impact. Let's make the most positive history-making impact the Nevada business ecosystem has ever experienced!!!!!

As a National Bestselling Author, Award-Winning Publisher, and Business Subject Matter & Storytelling expert, I always say that I want people to be able to relate to my characters, brand, messages, stories, products, etc. But I want them to be able to connect with me. If this isn't happening for you, then perhaps you might want to consider joining me for my "Relationship Currency" Workshop: How to Make Your Connections Your Biggest Asset. It's taking place
Saturday, October 11, 2025, 9:00 -10:30 AM PST, Zoom. The workshop is sponsored 100% by SCORE, which means it's 100% FREE for you to attend. You can register at the following link:

Did you know some of the most valuable connections start right here on social media? That is why I always tell authors and business owners I work with: If someone scans down your social media wall - personal or business - does your wall and posts represent who you are out there in the community of the readers, clients, and audience you wrote your book or created your products and services for?

Can people even tell that you are an author or expert in your respective field? Will they see you being an example of your message and serving? Will they even see you engaging with your readers, clients, and audience? Will they see photos of you in action constantly and consistently showing why what you do matters? Will they see that every post you make is intentional, informational, entertaining, empowering, educational . . . something to add benefit and value to someone else's life . . . making them want to connect with you, show up at your next book event/author appearance, webinar, workshop, launch, ribbon cutting ceremony, etc.?

Or is the information on your wall riddled with personal complaints, snide remarks, jokes in poor taste, woe is me sob stories, rants . . . stuff a person would post who we'd want to steer far and clear of their energy versus further connect with them?

Let's take it up a notch: When you are invited to connect with people, do they follow-up to re-connect with you/your organization? Are you finding that you're the one who has to initiate contact all the time? Do they dodge and ditch you every time you reach out to them? Do they always happen to reschedule once you are able to tie them down and lock in a date?

One of the first tasks we're going to do in the workshop is answer some of the questions I just posed above. So, let me forewarn you: This isn't a webinar disguised as a workshop. I am going to workshop you through some systems, strategies, and techniques so that you walk away with the foundation of which you can continue to lay bricks in order to build your empire of connections and REALationships!

We're also going to do an exercise to take inventory on your current connections and relationships. Is it a powerful and positive circle of people who take pleasure in your praises and serve as resources to help you recover your losses? Or is it a weak and negative cage of folks masquerading as supporters, waiting with bated breath for you to post something negative so that they can love, like, comment, and share . . . taking pleasure in your pain?
Oh, yes, people, we are going there!

Let's figure out what your Relationship Currency net worth is now, and how to grow and scale it.

Seats are limited, so register now at https://score.tfaforms.net/112?EventID=a10Vt00000AlKC1

When it comes to determining the price of your services and products, yes, it's normal to consider industry standard or industry average pricing, especially in the beginning stages of your business.
As a Business Subject Matter & Storytelling Expert, Literary Consultant and Publishing Coach of 30+ years, I don't take industry standard or average pricing into consideration for not one second when setting the prices for my products and services. Why? Because I - nor anyone on my team - is average. And we sure don't provide average service. We make sure we go above and beyond what our competitors offer; we under promise and overdeliver every time!

And when it comes to industry standard: Ha! We raised the bar on that years ago. And after raising the bar, we became the bar.

Sometimes it takes confidence - and then the courage to show that confidence - when presenting information about you, your business, your services and products. This includes sharing your prices. And you must remain confident even if you don't close the deal. Some people want to get exactly what they pay for, even if it's average. And that's okay. It's not a cause for you to start lowering your prices, having sales, specials, discounts, etc. in order to compete with your average competitor. You don't see Louis Vuitton having sales and discounts for the person who wants a Coach . . . from the Coach discount outlet store.

I understand that confidence doesn't come easy to everyone. And if that's you, click the link below to watch the replay of my webinar where I share tips, information, and strategies on how you can build confidence in your client presentations.
https://nevadasbdc.org/videos/building-confidence-in-client-presentations/

If you have a service or product that solves a problem...

and you are ready to package the symptoms (marketing language/assets) and prescription (solution) for the problem...

as well as your personal & business capabilities and credibility (cure, aka past results)...

and share it with the patients (clients) who really need it (the RIGHT audience/person and IDEAL customer)...

then this 90-minute investment of your time is going to teach you how to do so with confidence, conviction, and courage so that you can add value and benefit to the lives you built your business to serve!

You will learn in the "Building Confidence in Client Presentations" webinar:

-The common mistakes made when presenting/pitching
-Determining & understanding who you are presenting to
-What to deliver in your presentations
-How to deliver your presentations with confidence so that the stakeholder believes in you, your company, and your service/product

Do you know how to secure funding with your story? I'm not talking about a pitch - which can sometimes be a story on a time budget - but I'm talking about when given the full right, privilege, and opportunity to share your personal, business, and financial journey and story in order to secure funding? It can be sharing your story on a grant or loan application, a sponsorship deck, etc.

Last month at the IBPA (Independent Book Publishers Association) PubU25 Conference I was able to present a 20-minute in-person version of my presentation about what you need to say versus what needs to be heard when sharing your story. Many of you reached out and asked me if the presentation would also be available virtually, which at the time it wasn't. But next week, Nevada Small Business Development Center is giving me a full hour in the virtual webinar I'll be instructing titled Securing Funding with Your Story: What You Want to Say vs. What Needs to Be Heard.

Mark your calendar and set your alarm for June 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific/1:00 p.m. Eastern. And be sure to visit the link below to register: https://nsbdc.ecenterdirect.com/events/4906
