**Business Funding, Loans, and Lines of Credit... If You're Depending on These to Successfully Operate Your Business, Then Quit Now and Go Back to an 8-to-5 Job.**

Now, if that rubbed you the wrong way, let's really have a conversation.

As business owners, we generally do one of three things—or a combination of them:

• Sell a product
• Offer a service
• Provide social entertainment

Almost every business falls into one or more of those categories.

The difference between struggling and succeeding is not always funding. It's understanding how to generate revenue through what you already offer. How you sell your product or service in advance, how you price it, the payment methods you offer, and even the business bank account you choose can make a tremendous difference.

I promise you, if you learn how to do business the right way, you may find that you don't need traditional loans or business funding nearly as much as you think.

First, establish what your business realistically needs to generate each year and each month. Understand your expenses. Determine a reasonable salary for yourself based on the revenue your business produces. Keep your business money separate from your personal money.

Use credit and debit card processing companies. Once they see consistent revenue flowing through your business, many of them will offer financing opportunities based on your sales history. That's very different from chasing loans before you've proven your concept.

Look at ways to generate revenue before delivering the product or service. Offer memberships. Create subscription programs. Sell services in advance. Use pre-orders. Develop partnerships. Monetize your expertise and content through social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. A 30-minute investment each week creating content can continue generating revenue for years.

I had a client who owned a health drink business. When we first met, she was generating only about $12,000 per year in revenue. Together, we developed a strategy that included memberships, pre-orders, vendor locations in multiple states and markets, social media content on TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, shipping, and both direct in-store and online sales.

As a result, she generated more than $130,000 in revenue in a single month. That growth allowed her to hire a team, serve more areas, and expand her operations.

Today, after one year of consistently following that same model—pre-orders, memberships, partner locations, shipping, content creation, and direct sales—she is generating approximately $625,000 per month.

The product didn't magically change.

The plan changed.

Every business owner must develop a strategy that works for their business model. In many cases, it's really that simple: create a plan, execute it consistently, and adjust when necessary.

I had a coworker at my former job whom I used to tell all the time:

*"We give the best parts of our minds, our youth, our energy, and our time to a 7-to-3 job. Then when it comes time to invest in our own dreams, we're too tired to do it."*

He didn't listen.

He's still there.

I left and invested in myself.

That's not criticism. That's reality.

Entrepreneurship requires faith, planning, sacrifice, discipline, and the willingness to bet on yourself when no one else will.

Believe in yourself.

Have a plan.

Know your numbers.

Separate business from personal.

Create recurring revenue.

Build systems.

Execute consistently.

Business is **NOT FOR THE WEAK OR THE UNPLANNED.**

The truth is, not many loans exist that can save a poorly planned business. But if you have the right business, the right systems, and the right plan, you'll be just fine.

Stop looking for someone to fund your dream before you've done everything possible to prove it can work.

Build it. Plan it. Grow it.

Then watch opportunities come looking for you.

*Note: One caution for readers—while strong planning can reduce the need for borrowing, many successful businesses do use loans, lines of credit, or investors strategically for growth. The key is that funding should support a solid business plan, not replace one.*

For more than 20 years, I have had the honor and privilege of helping aspiring entrepreneurs start businesses and assisting passionate individuals in creating nonprofit organizations dedicated to making a difference in their communities.

Throughout this journey, I have met thousands of incredible people from all walks of life across the United States and even internationally. I have worked with visionaries, dreamers, community leaders, ministers, educators, mentors, content creators, and everyday individuals who simply wanted to solve a problem, provide a service, or make life better for others.

One thing that has consistently inspired me is the amount of talent, determination, and compassion that exists in people. However, after more than two decades in business development and nonprofit formation, I have also learned some important lessons.

First, passion alone does not guarantee success.

Many people possess extraordinary talent and have amazing ideas, but talent by itself does not always produce the results they hope for. A successful business or nonprofit organization requires planning, structure, discipline, financial management, compliance, and the willingness to learn and adapt.

Second, funding matters.

Many entrepreneurs and nonprofit founders have a vision that could impact hundreds or even thousands of lives, but they often lack the resources needed to fully execute their plans. This is why understanding funding options, business credit, grants, loans, sponsorships, fundraising, and strategic partnerships is so important.

Third, proper setup makes a tremendous difference.

Some of the most challenging situations I have encountered over the years could have been avoided if the organization had been properly established from the beginning. Choosing the right business structure, obtaining an EIN, maintaining accurate records, understanding compliance requirements, creating operating agreements, implementing payroll systems, and establishing sound accounting practices are not exciting topics, but they are essential to long-term success.

Fourth, business owners must learn to pay themselves.

Far too many entrepreneurs spend years building a business while neglecting their own financial stability. They pour everything back into the business but fail to create a system that provides them with verifiable income, retirement planning, and financial security. A healthy business should ultimately create value not only for customers and communities but also for the owner and their family.

Fifth, many leaders never fully realize the impact they have on others.

One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been watching businesses and nonprofit organizations grow long after our initial work together. Many founders may never know the full extent of the lives they have touched, the families they have helped, the jobs they have created, or the hope they have provided to others.

A mentoring program may have changed the trajectory of a young person's life. A nonprofit food program may have helped a family through difficult times. A small business may have provided employment opportunities that supported multiple households. The true impact of our work often extends far beyond what we can see.

Perhaps one of the greatest joys has been seeing organizations we helped launch years ago continue to operate successfully today. To witness a business or nonprofit still thriving after 10, 15, or even 20 years is a reminder that strong foundations matter.

Entrepreneurship is often portrayed as freedom and flexibility. While those benefits certainly exist, the reality is that business ownership can be one of the most demanding paths a person chooses.

As an entrepreneur, you may serve as the CEO, marketing director, accountant, salesperson, customer service representative, human resources department, operations manager, and employee—all in the same day.

The responsibilities are significant, and the challenges are real.

Today, we also live in an era where social media has created new opportunities for entrepreneurs and content creators. We often see successful creators, influencers, and online personalities generating substantial income through digital platforms.

Unfortunately, many individuals enter these opportunities without understanding the business side of success. Over the years, I have seen situations where content creators generated significant income but failed to establish proper business structures, maintain accurate records, file taxes correctly, or prepare for future tax obligations. Years later, some found themselves facing substantial tax liabilities and financial hardship that could have been prevented with proper planning and professional guidance.

Simple steps such as forming an LLC, establishing payroll systems, maintaining bookkeeping records, paying required taxes, and creating legitimate income documentation can make a tremendous difference in protecting both the business and the individual.

My encouragement to every entrepreneur, nonprofit founder, and content creator is this:

Do not become discouraged.

Every successful organization faces obstacles. Every business owner encounters challenges. Every nonprofit leader experiences moments of uncertainty.

Continue learning.

Continue growing.

Continue improving.

Do your research. Ask questions. Seek wise counsel. Review your plans carefully. Surround yourself with knowledgeable professionals. Make corrections when necessary. Most importantly, build a solid foundation that can support your vision for years to come.
