In hospitality, we spend our days crafting experiences that feel effortless. A vision board becomes a young girl’s dream wedding. A planning committee transforms ideas into spectacular corporate events. Designers, chefs, bartenders, and staff work tirelessly so every guest feels cared for. Most events take months — sometimes years — to plan. Ex*****on is rehearsed, refined, and intentional.
Shenandoah Country Club had zero warning before a vicious attack struck their neighbors at Temple Israel. And yet, without a moment’s notice, they embodied the purest form of hospitality. They offered shelter. A place to gather. A glass of water. A restroom. But above all, they offered compassion. No preparation. No hesitation. No concern for differing dogmas. They simply opened their doors.
And their generosity didn’t end there. In the aftermath, as the community searched for safety and stability, Shenandoah welcomed their neighbors back to host Friday Shabbat services in their ballroom while the temple was secured. If hospitality is truly “the generous reception of guests, visitors, or strangers,” then the directors and members of Shenandoah Country Club have set the standard.
