False information spreads like wildfire, especially when the headline is more sensational than the facts.
That’s why it is so important to hear directly from the source of truth.
New Orleans 9-1-1 is **NOT replacing human 9-1-1 professionals with AI.** AI is being used as a tool in a very specific circumstance to help triage duplicate calls related to already-reported motor vehicle crashes when call takers are busy.
There is a BIG difference between **replacing people with technology** and **using technology to support people.**
As someone who has spent more than two decades in 9-1-1 and now works at the intersection of public safety and technology, I believe we need thoughtful conversations about AI, its capabilities, limitations, guardrails, and impact on the people doing this work. But those conversations have to begin with accurate information.
Technology should support the mission. It should help our 9-1-1 professionals work more effectively, reduce unnecessary workload, and ultimately help get the right resources to people faster.
