While live turtles are what we are primarily after in terms of research. Dead turtle and their locations offer research opportunities as well. We can learn more about the dangers of changing or loss of habitat by mapping out turtles struck my cars and levels of predation by locating the remains such as the picture below.

the yellow line the path the radar confirmed tornado took on its way to the touchdown. as you can see in the map focused on the city of Waynesboro, the town was spared an even worse fate had the tornado touched down just moments earlier
