Well Friends, it seems like now would be a good time to consolidate social accounts.

A little while back we started our business Brookfield Apiaries where we sell bees, honey, and conservation services. Most recently, two interns from the The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology helped us create a digital course all about our most popular workshop: Native Bees like the Mason bee.

I started Om.Bees on IG and FB as a way to share my experiences as a new beekeeper with anyone who was interested. Through the past several years I have been invited to speak or run workshops for nearly 300 participants of all ages!! I cannot thank you all enough for the support and encouragement you continue to provide!

The time you have all shared with me has been incredible - and I don't plan to slow down anytime soon! I am just making a slight course adjustment to smooth out communication with our mentees and bee-curious friends.

You have probably already noticed that OM.Bees has not been very active for a few months. That isn't because I have slowed down. Instead I have been focused on building BrookfieldApiaries.com and our new Digital downloads so we can bring our experiences and mentoring to more people.

I would LOVE for you to continue on this journey with me. Please follow me at Brookfield Apiaries on IG, FB, and our website BrookfieldApiaries.com

Thank you so much for joining me in this next phase of growth and learning. You are my Why πŸ’›

Plums, cherries, and pine trees started showing blooms, nectar, and pollen this week πŸŒ¬οΈπŸƒ 🟑

Indian Hawthorn isn't far behind with buds and berries everywhere πŸͺ·

Last week, despite the cold temps, I pulled some overwintered nucs together using fall 2024 queens. Each nucs comes with 2-3 frames of their own capped brood, 1 frame of eggs and bee bread, and 1-2 frames of spring nectar and pollen.

The nucs are closed up with some probiotic pollen patties and 1:1 sugar syrup for 2-3 days. Then I check the laying pattern on the queens in each nuc before releasing the nuc for pickup by their new owners.

With the cold temps this week the nucs in waiting stayed in our shed, or inside the cab of my truck. Didn't want to risk chilling the new eggs and open brood.

The first overwintered nuc went to her new home yesterday 🏑. If you are waiting for an overwinter nuc you ordered from then you should have received a note from me this week with an estimated pickup date based on your place in line.

Thank you for supporting our small boutique beekeeping operation 🐝

Both produce pollen and important nectar for pollinators waking up from winter.

Just watch out for Bradford pear offspring. The new shoots grow with a grotesque variation - long and nasty thorns. Watch your step and wear gloves when clearing weeds near a Bradford pear 🍐

Maple Blossoms on the ground at the end of their short lived life as early spring food for bees.

After the pollen has been transferred from male flower parts to female, the nectar dries up and the blossoms fall from the branches. Pollinators have done their part for this tree, and the tree has done hers for the bees. 🌍

With the brief reprieve above freezing temps, our hyacinth bulbs have burst out of the ground with the speed and violet-ness of a volcanic eruption πŸŒ‹ πŸͺ»

Yesterday, a tiny peek of green foliage pushed through the leaves in 1 or 2 spots. With the sunrise this morning πŸŒ„ πŸ’œ flowers!

Vinca Major (Greater Periwinkle) showed up with a few blooms to see what all the fuss is about, too πŸ’œ
