Trending: Current style; vogue.
The general direction of something.

I really dislike the question "What's trending today?". Why should we put so much thought and time into what is trending than loving what we love and what we have. Is it the store's way of making us question what we are doing so that we will by the "new trend"? Or maybe we think we need to keep up with our favorite "influencer or trendsetter". I often wonder how much money is spent by the changes of trends when it comes to places like Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, etc.

I can honestly say that all of my homes (five to date) have been decorated in red, gold, blue and green, Colors that make me feel good. We still have Reid's forty year old lazy boy (which was reupholstered after 20 years using a red tweed) and I have always kept my favorite pieces of furniture whether they were in style or not.

We have been hanging pictures and art throughout our home this week and I had my large portraits of Chase and Whitney as children sitting in the dining room area. My intentions of hanging them was not complete until...... Izzy ask, "Is that my Mama?" Well, of course I immediately pulled out a nail and hammer looked at the sides of a cabinet and decided my grandkids needed to see pics of their parents as children. Do the portraits look like they should be hung there? NO, but oh the feeling that I get when the girls look up at them. Sheer delight!
Don’t worry about following trends….. if you love the memory of an item, use it! Have fun!

Busting out...... Since coming home from the 4th celebration, Reid and I have been bedridden! Covid? Flu? Who knows..... I just know that I have missed my garden and Reid has missed his woodshed! Reid is about two days behind me with the gunk, but today I woke up like a new woman and I had to escape to the nearest garden center and see my grandgirls (still from afar). I am putting the finishing touches on our garden now and trying to stick to a list of shrubs and plants I created. Today, I was hit upside the head with the most amazing smell. I wondered if it was so amazing because I had not smelled anything for a week or so, but still, I knew it was going to be scenting my car all the way home! I found one of the shrubs that I was looking for (Ninebark) and some fennel for the butterflies. I drove up to the cottage, thought Reid was going to put me in time out for buying another plant, not on my list. So, I just pulled my big girl pants up, snapped off one of the aromatic flowering limbs of the shrub, and ran into the house with an exuberant smile and voice shouting, "Reid, you will never believe what I FOUND today while shopping". First question..."Where are you going to put it?" Of course I told him that I had the perfect place waiting and that he should go back and lay down in the bed. Returning to our office, I looked up the plant and could not believe what I saw..... this plant would work perfectly in our shade garden with the ferns and hostas! What incredible shopping on my part!
Shade gardening can be hard, especially if you love color in your garden. We are blessed with a shade garden and a sun garden. The sun garden for me is easy, the shade not so easy. Here is the plant I purchased with the picture and a little bit about the plant.
Fragrance and color! That's what you'll get when you plant Clethra in your garden. Also called summersweet, this easy-care shrub bursts into bloom in the late summer, sporting spikes of richly scented white or pink flowers. Plus, in the fall, the leaves turn bright yellow. Clethra is a native shrub that tolerates wet acid soil and salt spray. Use it in a foundation planting or in a mixed border. Hummingbirds love this shrub, so if you plant it, you'll start seeing them flit around your yard.

When you see bees on your flowers, know that they are working hard pollinating your flowers! In other words….. don’t be scared of them and run them off. I had my camera inches from them and they were way to busy to even notice me!
