What if becoming a better leader started with being more honest about what leadership is costing you?

I had the opportunity to share my story with VoyageATL in an interview about life, business, and the journey behind E Howard Co Professional Innovations.

When I started E Howard Co in 2014, I wanted to help people grow, lead well, and create meaningful change.

Over time, my understanding of that work shifted.

I started to see that leadership development is about creating space for leaders to be honest about what they carry, question the expectations they inherit, and make decisions that reflect what really matters.

This isn't about pretending to have all the answers. It's about having the kinds of conversations that help us see more clearly, think differently, and move forward with more confidence and a community around us.

Still thinking about the energy, honesty, and connection at Thrive 360. 🙌🏾

I’m grateful to Nia Adams and The Base Foundation for creating a space where leaders could learn, connect, and be reminded that leadership is about more than what we accomplish. It’s also about who we become along the way.

I had the opportunity to lead a session called “How to Lead Without Losing Yourself," where we experienced a little of what Leadership Unfiltered is all about: creating space for people leading a family, business, community, or ministry to have real conversations about what leadership costs and how we can stay whole along the way.

Because leadership shouldn’t require us to disappear.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, leaned in, shared honestly, and trusted the room with a little more of your story. I’m leaving Thrive 360 reminded that there is a real hunger for leadership spaces where we can take off the mask of professionalism, tell the truth, and think clearly about what comes next.

A month ago I started inviting a small group of men I respect & admire to meet up for a weekend in October.

A few brothers couldn’t commit to the full weekend so, we opened up additional spots.

Good food. Good conversation. Some space to breathe. An opportunity to laugh, reflect, reconnect, and spend time around good men.

No expectation to perform. No pressure to have anything figured out. Nothing you need to prove.

Sixteen years ago, I wasn't trying to create a framework.

I was trying to survive a transition.

I had just moved from recruiting into a management role. For the first time, I wasn't responsible for filling positions—I was responsible for leading people, producing results, and making decisions that affected an entire team.

I quickly realized that working harder wasn't going to be enough.

I needed a way to think.

So I built myself a 90-day plan.

Not because anyone told me to.
Not because it was part of a leadership curriculum.

Because I needed a process that would help me understand where I was, decide what mattered most, and move forward with intention instead of reacting to whatever landed on my desk that day.

That simple planning process changed the way I led.

Over the next 16 years, it evolved with me.

I've used it while leading nonprofit organizations, launching new programs, building strategic partnerships, developing teams, navigating organizational change, and making some of the most significant decisions of my career.

The framework changed over time.

The purpose never did.

Create clarity.
Make better decisions.
Take meaningful action.

Today, that same process has become the DRIVE Workbook.
