Posting the good and the ugly. Because it is important to know things don’t always go as well as we want. Also to recognize the triumphs and redemptions even on bad days.
Today Mileya competed again. She wasnt nervous, she said she was ready. The comp was in houston but we stayed nearby just so we wouldn’t have to deal with traffic and parking etc. well guess who woke up late and caused her to show up 5 mins late and missed the team pic
She started on floor and did AMAZING! Got a 9.35 whoooo! It was going great! Then we did vault (the event she got hurt on 2 weeks ago that caused growth plate inflammation in her heel). First one was good but second one, not so much. She got an 8.7 😞 down from the 9.4 she had at last comp. She pushed through it because honestly, thats still a good score! Next was bars…..in practice she did great, I was like she’s got this! Then, no clue what happened. When competing- she struggled to get on the bar. Had to try a few times. When it was all said and done she did it great but it cost her- she got a 7.8. Last time she had a 9.1. Cue the tears.
We had to go to the bathroom to talk it out. A very kind woman also stepped in and gave her a pep talk and I loved what she said- your eyes are not in the back of your head. They are in the front so that you can look forward, not back to what is already done. She took some breaths and we moved on. Beam- last time she forgot her routine. So this time I said even if you just remember your routine- thats already better than last time! Well she remembered most of it and was doing great until the dismount. She didn’t stick the landing and fell. She got an 8.7 😞 Again still good but down from the 8.9 when she forgot the routine.
All in all it was a rough day BUT she still did great! She did improve in the events she didn’t do well in the last time- progress and growth! She was injured the last 2 weeks and up until a few days ago was limping so practices have not been as good as they could be. But the best part was - she got 3rd over all in her division for her floor routine!!!! Her worst event last time became her triumph this time! So proud!!! Her team also won first place again and she got 14th all around. The last time she was 17th. Again still good! Not what she hoped for but I know it will keep getting better from here!
Take a few minutes and enjoy the recap of today’s comp!
