The table says it all. Outbred barrel racing horses perform better. This is not to say that there was never an in**ed horse that didn't do well, it's to say that if you have a choice when breeding, the statistics show that outbreeding has a better chance of producing top horses.

In**ed racing quarter horses do worse across every category. We took racing data on over 67,000 quarter horses and calculated inbreeding from their pedigrees. 6.25% is equal to a 2x3 ie the same ancestor as a grandparent on one side and and great grand parent on another. A grand parent on both sides is 12.5% and even worse.

Whether you look at E speed(equibase's speed number similar to Speed index(SI)) or stakes wins horses with less inbreeding are better.

Both our DNA tests and our breeding focuses on reducing inbreeding (especially in barrel horses), using outbred vigor to make faster horses. It's a simple thing you can do when deciding who you breed your horses to.
