Glass Pour John became a fixture of our downtown tasting room (fondly referred to as BTR) the first year we opened. He introduced himself as John and only ordered cab. At first he spoke very little, working quietly on his phone. A few times he read the newspaper. Keely began referring to him as Glass Pour John. Gradually, he began slipping a few words in here and there on whatever topic was at hand and finally became full on engaged, wiggling his way into the hearts of our family, our staff and our customers.
He has his own leather chair in BTR. The years have molded to his body, the elbow dip worn just right from stabilizing his glass of cab on the side table in a lean position. Glass Pour John has witnessed and participated in a lot of life from his chair. He has worn many an Oktoberfest hat, had many a date with Ms. Bones (Kimmie's Halloween skeleton), read many a children's book and raised large amounts for charities He has observed all Christmas Lighting chaos and the slow days in February when behind the scenes logistics take place, ideas are hatched and the depths of true family colors are exposed. He has helped strangers through chemo, celebrated wedding anniversaries, wrangled new BTR acquaintances to join him on our yearly kayak trip with Outdoor Odysseys and he readily answers all customer questions. It is his four wheeler you are riding when you leave our wine club event with more wine than you can carry; voluntarily carrying you out of the goodness of his heart. This is very indicative of his character, as John is ever the caretaker. He is our very best wine buyer and the true beauty of that lies in the fact that he gives the vast majority of it away.
This week we closed the tasting room early for his 70th birthday, because much like Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving (the only days our doors are closed) Glass Pour John's birthday is, in fact, an important Boudreaux holiday and therefore we observe it in full Boudreaux fashion. We love you Glass Pour John!!! You are most generous, jovial, humble, sincere human we know and the spirit of BTR. Many thanks to your Mama, she raised a wonderful man. Cheers to 70 more.
