For more than a century, the Shelter House at Riverside Park in Independence, Kansas has been part of the community. Constructed in 1916, it's an incredible piece of local history that's been around for over 100 years and, up until recently, still had its original clay tile roof system installed.
In August, we were honored to partner with the City of Independence and the local Historical Society to replace the aging roof system and help insure the Shelter House remains part of Independence for generations to come.
This project required more than simply installing a new roof. Historical preservation demands a different approach—balancing long-term performance, preservation of the character and history of the building, and responsible use of the project's budget.
Those are challenges we're proud to take on.
We understand that we're not always just protecting a building. Sometimes, we're protecting a part of the community.
We're grateful for the trust placed in us to help preserve one of Independence's most recognized landmarks.
The Shelter House.
Built to last. Built with purpose. Built for the next 100 years.
