Deb Feder

Deb Feder Helping lawyers & professionals generate consistent clients through curious, confident conversations Sound familiar? If so, I can help. Our stories matter.

Are you a lawyer or professional ready to scale your career, but it feels like it's impossible since you spend all day scrambling, constantly managing everything for everyone else? And it feels like you are the only one constantly missing out on the "life" happening around you? Pressure is on to find those next clients, but no one taught you how. You go to networking events and never bring home a

client. You scramble to meet your monthly hours and are always stuck triaging problems rather than enjoying the benefits of this hard work. And you have great ideas on how you can help clients, but you never have the time or the platform to make them a reality. Would you like to finally figure out how to take control of this chaos, without sacrificing your career? I am Deb Feder, Business Development Strategist, Coach, and Consultant. The coaching part of my career came when my mother was sick and I needed to figure out how to have the “life” and “work” part at the same time. After 15 years of practicing law, certain things were clear. My mother taught me to create a space to hear people tell their stories so we know what they really want, and my history degree from the University of Michigan showed me how to use this to frame ideas. Curious conversations are the game changer. Trying to play small doesn't work. Getting rid of inefficiencies and implementing vetted systems lets you take control. Having a strategy that works for you, your team, and clients is critical. I work with people who are ready to own their success. Over the last decade as a business development strategist, I figured out that I cannot help those that are stuck blaming others, the system, or the situation. And I reject those that think a great career requires thousands of hours, tons of travel, and expensive systems. If you are a professional that is great at what you do and want to attract the perfect clients, then I can help. If you are a practice group or firm ready to level up your conversation, communication, and business development approach. This is what I do. Our business development coaching focuses on building strong relationships and providing outstanding client service through simple, efficient changes with big impact. I know you bill by the hour and every minute counts. If you are ready to take control of how you grow your practice, are ready for your exact next steps, and where you're getting stuck, we can do all this together. | https://debfeder.com/membership | https://debfeder.com/call

Have you noticed how much you can accomplish cleaning the house, hitting the gym, or working on a big project when you are focused? That’s why the anchor of my Membership program are
Focus30 calls.

The best part: you simply show up. I give you the tasks and you execute them quickly. Every Monday and Wednesday.

Today I want to give you a taste of these calls! Set a timer for 10 minutes and tackle as many of these as possible:

1. Clean up a corner of that desk!

2. Introduce yourself to someone new in your office, someone new to a client team, or someone new in the neighborhood.

3. Send an email to 3 colleagues asking them to reconnect and touch base in the next 2 weeks. Get them on the calendar.

4. Task list clean up! Take a look. Did one of those "don't really need to do" tasks get back there? Get it done or delete!

5. Pop on LinkedIn. Find 3 people you do not know. They are not part of your usual cohort and join their discussion. No matter how experienced or active you are on LinkedIn, it is always important to keep broadening your circle.

6. Save a couple minutes at the end. Just take a few breaths and notice all you accomplished!

This is what getting FOCUSED is all about. When we stop standing in our own way. And just get some stuff done. It is more than half the battle.

* Interested in joining us in the Membership? This is the client development, LinkedIn strategy, live coaching and productivity sessions each week...that is made for professionals and business
owners. (Through December the annual price is reduced to $990 from $2500). We would love to have you come join us! (Make sure you use the coupon code: BizBoost for the annual discount)

Lessons from a recording studio.

Lesson 1: Pack snacks and plan ahead. Apparently, a recording studio can pick up on every little sound. Including my stomach even thinking about a snack.

Lesson 2: Be aware of your tone. When you have a thought flash in your head...you can hear it in your voice. You really don't want to know how I learned this. But it's a good reminder, whether recording a book or engaging in a conversation.

Lesson 3: Pick good people who believe in excellence to work with. The Evolution Audio team in KC is amazing--and so much fun to get to know! It is hard to work with people who want to get it right...but so worth it. Believe in the process.

Lesson 4: That endurance muscle matters. Standing up for 5+ hours is no joke. Not fidgeting while doing it is harder. And not speaking with my hands so you don't hear the rustle of clothing is nearly impossible (for me). Practice the long days.

When was the last time you stretched your work muscles?

The Audible version of After Hello is in the works. Day 1 was awesome and exhausting. I learned so much in such a short period of time. And can't wait to get back in the studio to finish this up to share with all of you. It is seriously coming soon....

I have news. None of the following are fails. No matter what others try to tell you.

1. Sleeping in. You are paid for coherent thoughts. This starts with sleep. Allow yourself to rest.

2. Being a morning person or a night person. Or neither. Your schedule is yours.

3. Listening to music or working in silence. Seriously...why does anyone care?

4. Not posting on social media every day. There is no "right" posting plan. Find the way to engage with your own community. Not someone else's.

5. Staying away from networking events. Building a book of business does not require being in every room and meeting out there. It's about finding the space and conversations that work for you. And your clients.

6. Wanting more, wanting less, or wanting different. All choices. All yours. And being cool with the status quo works too.

Instead of looking at everything as a "win" or a "fail"...consider that these are just choices.

What does need to happen? Decide that you are going to own the choices for your days, career, book of business, and life. We work from there.

The standards we are trying to live by right now are unrealistic.

Perfection is not sustainable nor should it be our goal. We will mess up. We can fix it. We can apologize. We then must move on.

Perfection is exhausting.

Perfection is exhausting. And right now we are surrounded by so many things needing us not to fail. It is almost impossible to make it through a day.... 17 comments on LinkedIn
