Lebanon Fire District firefighters were dispatched to a large natural cover fire in Lacomb on Friday, Aug. 20. The fire, located in the 41000 block of Baptist Church Drive, was reported by neighbors at approximately 11:46 a.m.

When the Battalion Chief arrived, the fire had been contained to approximately one-half acre and extinguished by the property owner and neighbors. Additional firefighters arrived and worked to mop up hot spots throughout the burned area, making sure the fire was completely extinguished. Crews remained on scene for approximately one hour.

The fire was most likely caused by a spark striking a rock while equipment was swathing the field. No injuries were reported, and no equipment was damaged.

Reminder: Linn County remains under a countywide burn ban.

The burn ban includes backyard piles, barrel burning, charcoal fires, and recreational fires. These restrictions will remain in effect until the Linn County Fire Defense Board and Oregon Department of Forestry lift them, which may not happen until significant rainfall occurs.

Linn County Public Health is advising that smoky air conditions are expected to increase over the next day in the east Linn County area due to changing wind patterns. Conditions are expected to improve later Tuesday, Aug. 25.

What you can do to protect yourself:
• Limit your exposure to wildfire smoke.
• Keep windows and doors closed unless it is extremely hot outside.
• If using an air conditioner, keep the fresh-air intake closed and make sure the filter is clean.
• Consider using a HEPA filter or electrostatic precipitator (ESP) to help keep indoor air clean.
• If you do not have air conditioning and it is too warm to stay inside with the windows closed, seek shelter elsewhere.
• Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.

Air quality is monitored at specific sites. Visit oregonsmoke.org for current information. Conditions may range from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups. At the unhealthy-for-sensitive-groups level, most people are not affected, but children, older adults, and people with lung disease are at higher risk from exposure.

Well… we got a little ahead of ourselves. 😅

We lifted the burn ban in Linn County yesterday—and, turns out, we got that one wrong.

So, yep… the burn ban is back in place. 🔥🚫

Owning it is the easy part. Keeping everyone safe is the important part. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we correct course.

Please hold off on all burning until the ban is lifted again.

Our volunteers recently completed their monthly medical training, with 15 members participating in a review of essential EMR/EMT skills.

Regular training helps our volunteers stay prepared, maintain critical skills, and be ready to respond when their community needs them.

Interested in becoming part of the Lebanon Fire District? We’re currently accepting applications for our NFPA Support Person Academy. The academy includes 8 classes and 40 hours of training and is a great opportunity to support our fire stations in Waterloo, Berlin, Sodaville, and Lacomb.

Lebanon Fire District firefighters responded to a reported structure fire near River Drive at approximately 8:54 p.m. on August 15, 2026. While crews were responding, the original 911 caller provided an updated location to dispatch: the 38,000 block of Lawrence Drive.

When the Battalion Chief arrived, he was directed to a pole-barn-style shop with light smoke showing from the eaves. During his 360-degree size-up, he encountered the property owner attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.

Firefighters arrived shortly after and quickly deployed hose lines, directing water into the interior of the structure where the fire was burning. The fire was brought under control within moments. Crews remained on scene for approximately another hour to complete overhaul and mop-up operations.

No firefighters were injured. The property owner was evaluated by a fire/medic crew for a minor burn to the hand. Lebanon Fire District’s Deputy Fire Marshal began investigating the fire shortly after it was extinguished and returned the following day for follow-up.

Lebanon firefighters would like to remind the community that fire danger remains high throughout Linn County and across the state. Linn County currently has a countywide burn ban in effect, which includes backyard piles, barrel burning, charcoal fires, and recreational fires. These restrictions will remain in effect until the Linn County Fire Defense Board and ODF lift them, which may not occur until significant rainfall.

At approximately 1615 hours on August 10, 2026, Lebanon Fire District Medic 31 was returning to Lebanon after completing an interfacility transfer to Albany General Hospital when the crew noticed a small fire burning along Highway 34 near Steckley Road.

The crew stopped and requested a Lebanon Fire District engine. They attempted to extinguish the fire using the ambulance's fire extinguisher, but the fire had already grown too large. At that point, the fire was approximately 30 feet by 30 feet and spreading rapidly.

BC31 upgraded the incident to a first alarm, bringing additional engines, brush trucks, and firefighters to the scene.

By the time Engine 31 arrived, the fire had grown to approximately 75 feet by 30 feet and was rapidly spreading toward a nearby residence. Through the quick actions of the firefighters on Medic 31 and Engine 31, the fire was stopped within minutes, preventing it from reaching the home. Additional crews assisted with mop-up operations and confirmed the fire was completely extinguished.

The Lebanon Fire District reminds drivers to check their trailer safety chains before hitting the road. Dragging safety chains can strike the pavement and create sparks capable of starting a wildfire. Take a few seconds to make sure your chains are properly secured and not dragging on the roadway.

A small spark can become a fast-moving wildfire in a matter of minutes.
