We are excited to announce that before the $1 Book Sale on June 13th from 8am to 9am, we will be giving away 1,300 children’s books for all ages, from 0-3 to young adult in the name of Raising Readers, our global social impact campaign to combat the decline in children’s reading for fun. Additionally, the event will feature the star of Mo Willem’s bestselling series The Pigeon! Join for a meet-and-greet with The Pigeon and a photo op as we give away free books!

Registration is not required but priority will be given to those who do!

As we shared in a previous post, Hachette Book Group recently donated 7,600 books to Indy Book Project through their Raising Readers Initiative—and we’re excited to share a little more about what this means.

Raising Readers is a global initiative dedicated to helping children discover the joy of reading for fun. It’s also a powerful call to action for the adults who influence young readers—parents, educators, and community leaders—to help cultivate lifelong reading habits.

At Indy Book Project, we know that reading for pleasure is more than a hobby—it’s a game changer for a child’s future success. Yet recent studies show that enjoyment of reading is declining among young people.

That’s why initiatives like Raising Readers matter so much. By putting great books into the hands of young readers, Hachette is helping spark curiosity, imagination, and opportunity.

We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and support in helping us reach more readers across our community.
