Tonight, members of the Leeds Fire Department spent our training night working on anhydrous ammonia (NH₃) emergencies and the proper techniques for safely responding to and controlling a leak.
Anhydrous ammonia is commonly used throughout our agricultural community, and while it’s an important tool for our area farmers, a leak can quickly create a dangerous situation for responders and the public.
Our training focused on recognizing the hazards associated with NH₃, using the proper personal protective equipment, approaching a leak safely, and practicing techniques used to identify, control, and resolve a release.
Hands-on training like this helps prepare our members for the types of emergencies we may encounter right here in our community. A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the training possible.
