When your house payment statement comes in, or any year-end dividend checks, check the envelope closely.

There may be a 1099 or 1098 in with it.

I almost missed this 1099.

Price shoppers are beginning to call already. I just told a guy that if price is his main criteria, to have his uncle do his taxes on his kitchen table because I will not compete for his business by lowering my fee.

I charge what I do because I'm worth every dollar.

If you choose a tax professional based on price, you'll get what you pay for. A better way to choose a tax professional is based on education and experience.

In these days of a rampant, rabid IRS, you want someone handling your tax return who knows what she is doing.

Think of the IRS as a big vat of honey. If you fall in it, how easily will you be able to extricate yourself? If you fall in, you'll be a sticky mess for quite some time.

If you don't mind being in a sticky mess, shop by price. If you prefer to avoid the sticky mess, find an educated, experienced enrolled agent.

It's your choice.

E-file closes on November 20th. If you don't file by November 20th, you will have to wait until e-file opens back up sometime in late January.

I recommend that you create an online account with the IRS.

It is difficult to get assistance from the IRS these days because of their backlog and understaffing. Creating an online account now will allow me to easily get a power of attorney on file for you.

Then, if I need to help you, I can do so easily and quickly. It will give me access to your online account so that I can get information that I need.

I am in Florida for a month but will be back in my office September 14th for extension season.

I just discovered that my business phone has been down ever since they hooked up a fax line at my office 10 days ago. I knew that the fax that they hooked up did not work and had let them know, but I didn't realize until today that it messed up my office phone.

It's been really quiet this past week. I thought maybe it was just the dog days of August and no one needed me.

The IRS is sending out refunds to those who reported unemployment benefits as income prior to $10,200 of those benefits being deemed not taxable for the 2020 tax year.

You don't have to amend the tax return. The IRS is recalculating these and will automatically issue your refund.

The first round of refunds has been issued so if you are on file with them for direct deposit, check your bank account.
