🎉 Happy August, friends! Did you know August 17 is National Nonprofit Day? Around here, that’s more than just a calendar note—it’s a celebration of the changemakers, board builders, and mission-keepers who make our world better every single day. 💛

It also marks three years since the very first Mission-Focused Mixer—a little idea that grew into a movement of nonprofit leaders gathering with purpose, clarity, and joy. 🥂

To celebrate, I’m giving away 5 free copies of my audiobook, Business Not Battle—a love letter to nonprofit leadership that’s strategic, heartfelt, and just a little bit spicy. 🌶️

Here’s how to join the fun:

🎧 Be part of the audiobook giveaway: I’ll randomly draw 5 names from my email list

🗓️ Join us for the next Mission-Focused Mixer on August 18

💌 Want in on the contest or the mixer (or both)? Just DM me to be added to the list and sign up here: https://www.betterwithwe.com/events

Let’s celebrate the power of purpose—and the people who live it out every day. 🙌

The last major focus of our “Strategies for Success” session is building community partnerships. Andrew Surine, from the Bank of Clarke, shared that every nonprofit should have a good relationship with their banker, CPA, and lawyer. He encouraged nonprofits to ask if the products they are receiving are the best fit. Often there are no cost checking options available for nonprofits. Also, ask what fraud protection systems are in place. Don't just accept the way things are as the way they have to be. He also encouraged inviting these partners in to see your programs so they can better understand the work you are doing.

Another “Strategy for Success,” touched on was the importance of assessment. During last week’s Nonprofit Mission Focused Mixer, Stewart shared some questions that could be used to help your board conduct a self-assessment. Completing this assessment could be individual or completed collaboratively. Assessment can really strengthen and expand the effectiveness of nonprofit initiatives, a crucial driver for social impact and fulfilling a nonprofit's mission.

Today let's talk about another key avenue to success: creating a community of advocates. Finding and keeping a stable group of supporters is such a valuable component to running a successful nonprofit.

Davis from NEWWV talked about the importance of awareness, communication, and asking for help when needed. Nonprofit leaders wear so many hats. It is not uncommon for important events to overlap requiring a doppelganger. You can't split yourself, but you can be aware of the situation, communicate the situation to stakeholders, and ask for help. Having a community of advocates to rely on creates an environment where it is possible to do everything necessary to represent your organization and achieve your mission.

To continue to explore "Strategies for Success" we looked at fundraising, specifically fundraising events. Kerrie Schram discussed her experience turning a golf tournament and raffle into a huge success.

Her sharing resulted in these key take aways:

Knowing what your audience likes should direct what items are in a raffle.
Scheduling the flow of the event is critical to ensure you have max participation.
Offer Tiered Benefits Bundles to make it easy to buy added features.
Be able to accept credit cards.
Track hours and dollars spent, for analysis after the event.
