This yellow jacket nest popped up as a “memory” today.

It was located in a local river, near a popular boating spot. We found lot about a week later that it had a “twin” about a mile down the river.

All local, State, and Federal authorities worked well together preparing for the removal of this colony, while protecting the waterways and surrounding land.

A honey bee removal in Albany, GA USA.

They are all “lookalikes” because of camera operator error, again. It is hard to get pictures with a honey coated camera on a honey slick ladder, with 30-40,000 ladies wanted to protect their colony.

I usually use a water protection unit to keep my phone honey free, but yesterday was not “usual” in any way.

EDIt: People often ask why I put the City, State, and Country on my posts. When COVID first began, school teachers were scrambling for online resources. Many schools around the world started using my photos to teach about honey bees, Entomolgy, and geography. Over 75 Countries still use my materials, and I list the full location for geography purposes.

Many often write a note that they’ve “been near there” when they see a post. Interesting enough, of the State institutions of higher learning, both Wesleyan College and Mercer University seem to top UGA and GA Tech as recognized places.

Think you can tell the difference between a honey bee, bumble bee, carpenter bee, hover fly, and yellow jacket?

Many people are surprised to learn that a yellow jacket isn't a bee at all—it's actually a type of wasp!
