What a joy to return to Beth El Congregation in Baltimore for a bet din (rabbinic court) welcoming Kira to the Jewish family! Kira is USNR, and the bet din had a lot of military connection. Kira, her fiance Ash, and I are both members of the same synagogue, and our rabbi (former Army National Guard chaplain) presided. The second rabbi is finishing his USAF tenure to become a Beth El rabbi, just blocks away from his childhood home. I completed the bet din and rounded out the military representation with my USN service. It was a delight to be recognized by one of my former Beth El congregants fully 15 years since my service to the community.

It was a L'dor VaDor (Generation to Generation) moment for these two sisters receiving their Hebrew names. Mom and Dad in Falls Church had family from everywhere. Family heirloom Judaica used in their custom ceremony included candlesticks, a kiddush cup used for family weddings, and dad's bar mitzvah tallit. What a blessing for all four grandparents participate in the ceremony and joy with tons of cousins celebrating together! A dear family friend (and Catholic priest) present for the occasion noted a long wait ahead for .
