“Can I deduct my dog as a security system?” 🐕

If your dog guards your house, scares off intruders, and barks at the mailman… it still doesn’t make him a tax deduction.

The IRS does not allow deductions for pets just because they “protect the house.”

The only rare exceptions:
• Guard dogs protecting business property
• Service animals prescribed for medical reasons

Your lovable pooch that sleeps 16 hours a day and occasionally barks at squirrels unfortunately does not qualify as a security expense.
