Traffic Advisory for Falls of Rough Rd at Rough River Dam.

Traffic Advisory: KY 79 Bridge Replacement Begins Next Week In Grayson County Near Rough River Lake

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (May 28, 2026) - After temporary measures were taken two weeks ago to keep traffic moving on the KY 79 bridge over the spillway of Rough River Lake, contract crews will begin working toward rebuilding the bridge and its approaches June 1st. A $2.54 Million contract was awarded April 7th to to Hall Contracting and has a completion date of November 30th.

Traffic will continue to utilize a temporary signal for alternating one-way traffic across the bridge. Wide loads will be prohibited during construction with a 10-feet width limit June 1st through November 30th.

Additional traffic pattern changes will be required during the project. The KYTC District 4 Office will alert local media and post notices on social media ahead of these changes.

Rough River near Dundee affecting Ohio County.
Heavy rain from the past few hours will cause the river to rise.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Rough River near Dundee.

* WHEN...From this evening to late tomorrow evening.

* IMPACTS...At 25.0 feet, County roads between Dundee and Narrows
flood.
At 26.0 feet, County roads near Sunnydale flood.
At 27.0 feet, KY 919 flood at Underwood and Clifty Huff Roads near
Narrows.
At 28.0 feet, Trailer courts in Hartford flood.
At 29.0 feet, KY 136 at Heflin Road floods near county line. KY 69
floods near intersection of US 231 in Hartford.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 3:00 PM CDT Tuesday the stage was 20.7 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 23.0 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
this evening to a crest of 27.1 feet just after midnight
tonight. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow
afternoon.
- Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
27.1 feet on 12/11/2007.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central and south central Kentucky, including
the following counties, in central Kentucky, Grayson and Ohio. In
south central Kentucky, Butler, Edmonson, Logan and Warren.

* WHEN...Until 130 PM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Water over roadways.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1033 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall. Minor
flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the
advisory area. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Bowling Green, Leitchfield, Morgantown, Plum Springs, Casey,
Lee, Caneyville, Woodbury, Concord and Decker.

It looks like we will be getting more rain with a chance of localized flooding tomorrow (Tuesday). Stay alert and don’t drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.

A very moist airmass overspreads the region Tuesday morning into the early afternoon. Widespread rainfall amounts between a third of an inch and one inch are expected for Kentucky, however localized amounts between 2-3+ inches are possible in the area highlighted in orange. Localized Flash Flooding could develop. Southern Indiana rainfall amounts should range between a quarter inch or less in most spots.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1138 AM CDT /1238 PM EDT/, Doppler radar indicated heavy
rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or
expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5
and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Leitchfield, Hudson, Hardin Springs, Constantine, Centerview,
Pierce Mill, Dyer, Eveleigh, Madrid and Hanging Rock.
