New truck pride! It's always a fun moment to see some shiny new decals, this one on one of our more recent upgrades to our fleet. Between our own trucks and UPS we ship weekly, all year round to all 50 states and Canada so our plants are only a matter of days away from your hands.

Cutting flowers from our stock and making arrangements for the office is a constant activity and shows how pleasing and varied perennial blooms can be, even ones most strongly associated with the outdoors. Here Solidago 'Fireworks' explodes from its vase. This smaller, more graceful form of native goldenrod has golden yellow flower spikes that resemble fireworks above dark green foliage. Sought after by pollinators in the peak of the season, it is an excellent choice for a butterfly garden, meadow, or naturalized area and makes a wonderful cut display.

Huge thanks to and our local Chamber of Commerce for setting us up with another round of Covid-19 PPE supplies. Having what we need to keep our dozens of employees safe has given us a bit more peace of mind as we head into the colder months, especially with stuff like masks and disinfectant which can still be tough to source ourselves.

If you're a business in Lancaster, you can sign up to get a kit through October 16th! For those in other areas be sure to check with your local county administration to see if they have a similar program in place.

Clean and classy is a quality that we love in perennials. Gaura 'Silver Fountain' fits that description expertly, easily distinguishing itself with its clear white blooms on clearly variegated foliage. Their tall flower stems and airy habit catches the eye even at a distance and it's one of the rare plants to maintain long interest both in and out of bloom.

If you squint your eyes in our gardens in just the right place it feels a little like being in a national park. Rudbeckia 'Herbstonne' aka 'Autumn Sun' makes for a dominant display of height and form. Reaching up to 8 ft. tall, this mid to late summer bloomer features large glossy and deeply cut leaves with bright yellow flowers that seem to point to the sky. This old faithful of ours is a big event here when it comes into bloom and the neighborhood pollinators tend to agree.

It's Echinacea time and 'Kismet Raspberry' is starting to unfurl and this is just the start! An intense pink without a hint of gray, this series is known for its vivid color, flower count, and re-bloom. We're looking forward to being greeted by it all summer.

How a plant flows with the wind is an underrated element of garden performance. This Lavender 'Big Time Blue' in our trial gardens caught our eye while buffeted in a breeze and we had to capture it in motion. Its vivid purple blooms are twice normal size and create a striking visual and delicately timpanic impression in the wind. Its small overall size and long season make it ideal in containers or along walkways.

Our Story

Creek Hill Nursery participates in the perennial liner business. We sell starter plants in trays of 21, 50 and 72; and–with few exceptions–we are not interested in the plant if it is not hardy down to Zone 7, at least. Faced with the large diversity of species and cultivars within perennials, we focus on only garden-worthy material that’s suitable for production and thrives around the home.

INNOVATION means new plants that make a significant contribution to their genus–a new color, a new form, a new height, something. With thousands of cultivars, we don’t grow everything. We focus our efforts on the best, the new and the interesting cultivars–popular varieties that everyone needs and special material that deserves attention for good reason. We try to sort out the best and the most interesting cultivars that breeders have to offer.

DIVERSITY is another calling card. We offer a broad range of both genera and cultivars because an interesting selection drives sales. This is true at the garden bench, at the finishing nursery and at our level as well. We provide the popular varieties that everyone expects along with a mixture of neat, cool, unusual or groundbreaking cultivars alongside of them.

QUALITY is a watchword for us. We work high-volume production houses because we supply perennials from coast-to-coast in the US and Canada. We earned our place in the industry by offering material worth re-ordering, a sign to us that we did a good job. That said, we always try for better. We switched from a chemical-based pest control system to one founded on biological principals. Our plugs responded well, and our customers rewarded us with more business. We can get behind that winning cycle.

We strive to provide VALUE to the buyer in three ways: as a source of new and exciting material; as a curator of premium perennials, both new and heritage, that are worth selling; and as a supplier of high-quality liners at a reasonable price. We don’t want to be known as “that expensive place” or even “expensive, but worth it.” We want people to enjoy a wide range of different perennials.

On the flip side, we also don’t want to put ourselves into the dollar bin. Cheap products require shortcuts that starve the plants. We want to be proud of the product we ship, so we ask for a fair price in order to do the best job we can.

Finally, we have a corporate commitment to SUSTAINABILITY. We are not organic, but we are replacing most pesticides with a better way. We practice biological controls adapted for high-volume production greenhouses, customized down to the bench level. This shows that a switch away from pesticides and petroleum is possible, even under traditional market pressures.
