🔥 WEST VIRGINIA FALL BURNING LAW BEGINS TOMORROW! 🔥

The Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia reminds everyone that October 1 through December 31, outdoor burning is prohibited between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

If you plan to burn, know the law, keep the fire attended at all times, maintain the required cleared area, and never leave a fire until it is completely extinguished.

🍂🔥 A small outdoor fire can quickly become a major emergency. Burn responsibly and help protect your neighbors, firefighters, property, and West Virginia’s forests.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this reminder!

📢 COUNTYWIDE PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: FALL BURNING RESTRICTIONS 📢

As we enter the autumn season, Mason County Emergency Services reminds all residents that the West Virginia Fall Burning Law goes into effect on October 1st and continues through December 31st.

Wildfires pose a significant threat to our rural communities, homes, and emergency personnel.

Please familiarize yourself with the state regulations outlined below:
⏱ PERMITTED BURNING HOURS
NO BURNING is permitted between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Burning is strictly restricted to evening and overnight hours: 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM only.
(Humidity levels typically rise and winds die down during these hours, lowering the risk of wildfire spread).

🛑 REQUIREMENTS & REGULATIONS
Constant Supervision: Your fire must be attended at all times until it is completely out and cold to the touch.
Safety Perimeter: The surrounding ground must be cleared down to mineral soil for at least 10 feet in every direction from the burn pile.
Weather Conditions: Avoid open burning during dry conditions or high wind advisories, even during authorized hours.

⚖️ LEGAL & FINANCIAL LIABILITY
Fines for violating burning restrictions can reach up to $1,000.00.
Cost Recovery: If your outdoor fire escapes control, you can be held legally and financially liable for the entire cost of fire suppression operations, as well as any resulting property damage.
Willfully setting fires is a felony offense punishable by fine and/or imprisonment.

🚨 REPORTING
Active Fire Emergencies: Dial 911 immediately.
WV Arson Hotline: 1-800-233-FIRE (1-800-233-3473). Up to a $1,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Help our local volunteer fire departments and emergency personnel protect Mason County. Thank you for your cooperation and vigilance!

Good afternoon everybody. I believe everybody has probably known with Facebook post that we took nearly 3 in of rain and about a 2-hour time period.. that following up from almost 2 in of rain that we took the other night followed by a morning of over 5 in of rain has caused some significant issues with our ground and being saturated.

Please understand our office of Emergency Management as an office of two people and we have been working around the clock since the first raindrop to do what we can to help our citizens.

It is vital that everybody that was affected in today's rain or in any of the other two of rain events that have happened this week that you take your pictures and report into the survey 123. This allows us to work with our partners such as the Red Cross for faith-based groups that have volunteers that would like to come in and help to get them accurate information.

We understand that we are not going to meet a threshold to allow for federal money to come in. However, we do have people that are there to volunteer and help. Please utilize the survey 123 and get your information to us so we can share.

Google Maps and 511 are showing Rt87 Evans Road CLOSED!! It is in fact OPEN!! We’ve spoken with DOH about the issue and they have no knowledge as to why it is showing that. They have trucks and crews traveling the area doing road repairs on Devault Rd, Bug Run Rd, Debbie Rd and others with graders and dump trucks. Use caution in these areas, but if GPS tries to detour you from Rt87 Evans Rd, do not abide by that!! Most will come up asking if the road has reopened, if can be done safely, answer YES!! Our Side by Side ride for us going as scheduled!!

343 and 9/11 are two sets of numbers that firefighters will never forget. 343 of New York City’s finest lost their lives on 9/11. For many of this generation, 9/11 is why we joined the fire service, to serve our communities in times of need and tragedy. Photo shows FDNY Asst Chief Gerald Barbara looking up at the burning towers, moments later, he would lose his life as the South Tower collapsed on him. Rest easy to the First Responders and civilians alike who lost their lives on this September day 25 years ago. Today, we’ve not forgotten. And shall we never forget.

Hope to see ya there!!
