Case Study Spotlight | California School Campus 🎓⚡

What if a school could reduce peak demand and shift energy use — without changing its existing solar system?

That’s exactly what a public high school campus in Chula Vista, California set out to do.

As part of a broader campus renovation, the school integrated a standalone battery energy storage system featuring:

🔋 2 × Pytes HV48100 SE battery cabinets
⚡ 1 × Sol-Ark Energy 60K high-voltage inverter
🔋 ~70 kWh battery capacity
⚡ 30 kW system output

Interestingly, the campus already had grid-tied solar carports — but the new BESS operates independently.

Instead, the system is designed around a different goal: smarter energy management.

By charging during lower-cost periods and discharging when electricity costs and demand are higher, the system can support:

→ Time-of-use energy shifting
→ Demand charge management
→ Greater operational flexibility

Another key consideration? Permitting.

The Pytes HV48100 SE’s modular architecture allowed the project team to configure each cabinet below 50 kWh, helping simplify documentation and support the fire marshal/AHJ review process.

This project shows that commercial energy storage doesn’t always have to start with solar.
