We’re asking businesses to participate in the Fiscal Year 2026 Smart Business Recycling Program Report Survey—currently South Carolina’s only way of collecting statewide business recycling data.

Your participation helps SCDES better understand recycling needs and resources across the state.

📅 Submit your recycling data by October 15, 2026 to qualify to apply for the SC Smart Business Recycling Awards Program and have your efforts recognized through SCDES social media, web platforms, and an awards presentation.

We're celebrating America Recycles Day with a coloring contest — and introducing two new friends along the way! 🎉

🦝🐢 Meet Murray & Ricky Raccoon, the newest members of the Lexington County Solid Waste Management crew!

📅 Starting TODAY, October 12, Lexington County children ages 4–12 can join the fun! Color Murray and Ricky, solve a recycling riddle, and use the Lexington County Solid Waste App to uncover a secret code word for a chance to win!

🏆 THREE AGE GROUPS. THREE WINNERS!

🎁 Each winner will receive an EdVenture family ticket pack, a $100 Visa gift card, and a VIP Edmund Landfill tour!

⏰ Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on November 15 — America Recycles Day!

💊 Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Safely dispose of your unwanted or expired prescription medications on Saturday, October 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

📍 Location: Lexington County Sheriff’s Department

Do you have any old, unwanted medication?

We will be accepting your expired or unwanted prescriptions at LCSD Headquarters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 24. This is an opportunity to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

⛈️ Hey, storm preppers! Stocked up on milk and bread? Good, now let’s talk trash cans...

When strong winds and heavy rain roll through, everyday items left outside can quickly become storm debris, ending up in our streets, storm drains and waterways.

Be the calm before the storm! Take a few minutes to:

- Check your cans. Secure the lids and move bins to a sheltered spot so trash and recyclables don’t scatter.

- Secure loose items. Bring in or tie down patio furniture, decorations, and anything else that could blow away.

- Tidy up your yard. Pick up loose debris before the storm does it for you, and clear leaves and debris from gutters and storm drains so water can drain properly.

- Check on your neighbors and see if they need an extra hand to do the same.

After the storm, you may see more litter around than usual. Pickup schedules can shift while local crews put safety and recovery first, so please be patient with them. Once it’s safe, we can all pitch in to clean up.

Do NOT put car waxes or polishes in curbside garbage or recycling when they contain flammable solvents, petroleum-based, or oil-based ingredients.

▪️Keep them away from heat, flames, sparks, and other ignition sources during storage and use.

▪️Proper disposal: Take them to a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop-off event.

▪️Check Lexington County’s page for upcoming HHW dates and event details.

▪️If you're unsure, use the Lexington County Solid Waste lookup tool/app.
