Creature Feature:

Did you know we have Trapdoor spiders in central Kentucky? We collected this specimen recently while servicing a client's property.

Trapdoor spiders are typically non-aggressive and prefer moist, undisturbed soil, wooded areas, etc. You rarely see them moving around in the open.

To catch their prey, they create silk-lined burrows and make a "trap door" out of dirt, silk, vegetation, etc. They wait inside their burrow for their prey to cross over their hidden "trip line" and engage the trap door.

Pretty creative and ingenious ambush predator, wouldn't you agree?

The Impact Awards celebrate and honor exceptional women within the pest management industry.
