Be careful on the slippery floors!

It's days like today that make my job so important. I help business owners protect their customers and themselves against slips and falls.

Keep an eye out for these wet floor signs and be careful out there. If you own a business and are putting these signs out today, lets talk about another option for slip-resistance.

We knew our floors were slippery when wet. We were not aware of a solution until Butch Davis, owner of Safe Floors of Kentucky, contacted us. Butch's demonstration piqued our interest enough to want to proceed to the next step, which was treating an area in one of our restaurants. Butch performed three slip meter readings during this process: the first reading was after just applying water to the tile, the second reading was after cleaning the tile, and third reading was after the treatment. The difference was unbelievable: we had all kinds of traction.

At that point, we were ready to give the treatment a try. Butch and his staff treated the floor in our Richmond Road restaurant. During the treatment, which took approximately 3 hours, Butch performed three different slip meter readings, in five different locations, which will be monitored periodically going forward. Butch will provide me with written documentation on the wet static co-efficient of friction readings for the floors in each of my restaurants. In the event of a subsequent slip and fall, we have a record of being proactive regarding floor safety.

At this point, Butch and his team have treated all six of my restaurants in the Lexington metro area.

* Slips, trips and falls were the #1 cause for unintentional injury for most age groups, taken from the most recent data by the National Safety Council.

* Slips, trips and falls are the second leading cause of unintentional deaths in homes and communities in 2014, taken from the most recent data by the National Safety Council.

* Slips, trips and falls were the second leading cause of fatal and non-fatal occupational injuries in 2014, taken from the most recent data by the Bureau of Labor Statistics

Their #1 cause of work place accidents were slips, trips, and falls, accounting for 24.3% of all claims.

We increase safety and reduce risk for businesses and property managers. We do this by making the existing tile floor slip resistant. Our non-slip process increases the wet co-efficient of friction, giving the floor traction when wet.

Our non-slip process makes the floor NFSI (National Floor Safety Institute) compliant, with the goal of helping reduce harmful slips and falls, resulting in reduced workers compensation and general liability claims.
