Go Dragon! 🐉 is on its way to the ISS after today's successful launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Congratulations to the teams who made today’s launch possible, and best wishes to the crew as they begin their journey to the ISS.

Traveling with the crew is a UC San Diego CubeLab investigation studying how burned soil, water, and trapped air interact in microgravity to better understand the behavior of dangerous debris flows following wildfires. The research could help improve debris flow prediction, hazard assessments, and early-warning systems on Earth.

In a new feature, Science explores how advances in automated research, lower launch costs, and decades of lessons learned in orbit are opening new possibilities for manufacturing pharmaceuticals, tissues, and other high-value products in space.

Among the examples: LambdaVision’s work with Space Tango to manufacture protein-based artificial retinas in microgravity—demonstrating how automated systems can turn the unique environment of space into a tool for products that could improve life on Earth.

This is the future we’re building toward: moving beyond experimentation to repeatable, scalable manufacturing in space.
