Lexington, our hearts are heavy.
What should have been a moment of community, music, laughter, and togetherness became a moment of unimaginable pain.
Today, we mourn the life that was lost. We hold every person who was injured, every family affected, and every person who witnessed what happened close in our hearts.
But even in grief, we cannot surrender our community to fear.
We must keep showing up for one another.
Keep protecting one another.
Keep loving one another.
Keep creating spaces where our children, our families, and our neighbors can gather in peace.
Lexington, we are hurting — but we are still here.
May this moment remind us that community is more than where we gather. Community is how we carry one another when the gathering is over.
To every family affected: we see you. We stand with you. We are praying for you.
And to our city: may we heal together, grow stronger together, and never stop working toward the safer community we all deserve.
