Today, on National Police Officer Memorial Day, we stand in solemn remembrance of the six brave men of the Liberty County Sheriffโ€™s Office who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community.

We honor:

Deputy Sheriff Virgil Parsley (1928)
Deputy McFarland, III (1990)
Patrol Deputy Wilburn Junior โ€œWillโ€ Agy (1995)
Corporal David King (2002)
Deputy Sheriff Odell McDuffie, Jr. (2010)
Deputy Sheriff Richard Edward Whitten (2020)

These heroes wore the badge with courage, honor, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others, even at the cost of their own lives.

They did not run from danger.
They stood between evil and the innocent.
They answered the call, knowing the risks, because service was not just a duty, it was who they were.

Their sacrifice is forever woven into the history of this office and the foundation of this county. Their names will never fade, their service will never be forgotten, and their legacy will continue to live on through every deputy who wears this badge with pride.

Today, we remember not just the way they died, but the way they lived with strength, bravery, and purpose.

To the families who carry their memory, to the brothers and sisters who continue the watch, and to the community they gave everything to protect, we honor you.

We honor their sacrifice.
We remember their names.
We carry forward their legacy.

Gone, but never forgotten.

Lint happens. Fires donโ€™t have to. Lint buildup can lead to a dryer fire if itโ€™s not cleaned regularly.

โ€ข Clean the lint filter before or after each load.
โ€ข Make sure the outdoor vent flap opens when the dryer is running.
โ€ข Have a qualified service person clean the inside of the dryer cabinet and exhaust duct once a year.

Liberty County has deep roots in Texas history. As one of the original 23 counties established in the Republic of Texas, this county stands on ground shaped by the legacy of leaders like Sam Houston and William B. Travis, whose ties to this area helped shape the foundation of Texas itself. That history of service, sacrifice, and leadership still carries forward today.

The Liberty County Sheriffโ€™s Office is proud to serve one of the fastest-growing areas in Texas while holding firmly to those values. We are looking for men and women ready to build a profession rooted in integrity, discipline, and purpose.

Patrol is where every deputy builds their foundation, learning the profession, serving the community, and gaining the experience that can lead to opportunities across our many divisions, including Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics, K9, CVE, Marine, Drone Operations, SRT, Civil, Transportation, and Corrections.

With competitive pay, strong retirement, specialized units, and a department that believes heavily in training and professional development, Liberty County offers more than a paycheck, it offers the chance to build a meaningful career.

Whether youโ€™re looking to become a deputy sheriff or you already wear the badge and want to serve in a professional, integrity-driven agency, Liberty County Sheriffโ€™s Office offers the opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself, serving a historic county while helping shape its future.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire Safety Tip for May 5 ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Did you know? Cooking is one of the leading causes of home fires. Never leave food unattended while cooking, especially when frying or grilling. Keep anything that can catch fire โ€” like towels, paper, and oven mitts โ€” away from the stovetop.
โœ… Stay in the kitchen while cooking
โœ… Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires
โœ… Make sure smoke alarms are working properly
A few simple precautions can help keep your family safe. Stay alert and stay fire safe! ๐Ÿš’
