Gray Saunders and I took the opportunity to demonstrate the new Aputure Infinimat capabilities to our good friends at Production Consultants and Equipment a few days ago. It’s no secret that in our opinion PC&E is still the heart and soul of Atlanta’s production community. Jon Omps and Sarah Clayton in the rental department as well as company president, Garret Murck, should all know that they have complete access to our Infinimat for any project or customer that is asking about it’s availability. PC&E is the most complete rental house in the city. Gray and I also brought the 8x8 LED monster over to the Volume set at 24 ATL Studios. Potential for the Infinimat is especially exciting with the prospect of using it in conjunction with the big LED wall. https://24atlstudios.com

Tim Glover, an outstanding lighting cameraman and still photographer, was kind enough to take some time to join us at 24ATL to look at the light. It’s a well known fact that I’ve been stealing Tim’s set lighting ideas for over 3 decades. Our new Aputure 8x8 Infinimat arrived last week and is ready to work. Last Friday, we showed it off to our friends at Wavelength Lighting LLC, in Stone Mountain. Our thanks to JA Byerly, Rich Wilcox, and all our friends at Wavelength for letting us use their beautiful showroom for our first build. We were also joined by DP, Michael Pietrebon, and Producer/Director, Samantha Young who were there to help us put the light through the paces. We look forward to using it on Danny Boy projects, but we also hope to make it available to the rental shops such as Wavelength.

Our new Aputure Infinimat 8x8 LED fixture will land at Danny Boy later this week. We hope to be among the first G&E shops in Atlanta to have this amazing lighting tool on our shelf. We're planning an unboxing later this week to learn how to build and operate this inflatable beast. Once all our crew are up to speed on this new light, we hope to host a demo and would invite additional crew and customers to have a look at it. It's been nearly 2 weeks since the Atlanta film community lost my friend, Terry Fitzpatrick, whom I've known for over 30 years. Terry was really good at whatever he tried, culminating in the awesome volume set at 24ATL Studios. I was proud to be in Terry's circle. He was a good man, and fun to work with. Terry, along with my friend, Nick Lustig, brought me in on many LED wall shoots to do lighting over the last couple of years. The property was becoming popular because of the amazing technology and versatility of their set-up. Terry's passing is a great loss to all of us in the film community. We've lost a stalwart technical talent in Terry Fitzpatrick. His sudden absence will be very difficult to adjust to. Rest in Peace.

Taking some time to chat about recent fun projects and fun new equipment.

We recently worked on a job for iFrame Media with our good friend, Billy Hong, for his client, Auntie Anne's Pretzels. Our DP was Tom Prichard, a stalwart and talented lighting cameraman, who brought along his amazing MYT Works Slider Dolly. As an accessory to the ARCO dolly, this was an amazing tool that quickly gave any camera position an instant camera move. This allowed us to audition a dolly move instantly, without track or dance floor. On the strength of it's performance on this project, we decided to take steps to acquire one of our own. We have some exciting new gear. A Nanlite PavoTube II 30x 4 lamp kit and the Fiilex Q-10 Color fresnel are now in the Danny Boy inventory. The PavuTubes are already proving to be very useful on many projects. As much as I really love our Quasars Crossfades (and I'm keeping them) RGB capability, effects menus, and onboard batteries make the PavuTube a formiddable multi-tasker.
We hope the new Q-10 Color will prove to very useful and popular. At 900 watts, my plan is to see how well it compares, while fresnel configured, to M 1.8 for Daylight applications, but also possibly replacing a 5k tungsten when entertainment code distribution is unavailable. Luc Bonneson quite astutely pointed out that the Q-10's design allows for the potential use of PAR lenses that are hopefully in development. Oh, and Fiilex Q-10 Color has full RGBW and has effects menus.

Just finished my first run (20) of the new Danny Boy clothespin. I've made these "T-Rex" Danny Boys from the most robust traditional clothespins you're ever likely to find. The brand is Heritage and I found them on Amazon. The Heritage oak clothespin is precisely cut with a high strength spring and they are made in the US.
Not sure yet if it's a viable sale item because my costs were similar to a #1 Pony clamp. If there's enough novelty in these monsters I'll eventually have some for sale. For now they'll be in my set bag.
We'll put them to the test next week.

We are starting to accept shoot days again if the projects are such that safety protocols are able to be observed while working. In preparation for today's shoot at Delta, My friend Hawk Stevens from Contagion Busters came out yesterday to do a decontamination sweep with his UV equipment. Hawk is also the gaffer on today's project at Delta.
Both griptrucks have in effect been in quarantine since the 3rd week of March, so I'm confident there's zero chance of Covid19 being aboard the vehicles or on the equipment. However, we're thinking that having Contagion Busters sweep the equipment and the trucks with this powerful disinfecting light before each new job is a good idea as business slowly picks up.

As many of you may already know, Atlanta's production family lost a beloved and talented lighting cameraman. My friend Herb Kossover passed away last week. I'm saddened at his passing and I wish dearly that I'd had the chance to properly thank him for the opportunities he'd given me over the years not just as his occasional gaffer, but also as celebrity guest on grip and lighting day for his production class at the Art Institute. Over the last 4 years or so Gray and I were warmly received by Herb and his enthusiastic students. Those young people were indeed very fortunate to have someone with Herb's resume there to instruct them.
My friend David Druckenmiller has organised a GoFundMe page for Herb's son Harrison and his college expenses.
