Children are often told to “calm down” before they have been taught how.

But calm is not something kids magically know how to access when they are overwhelmed.

Calm is a skill.
Self-regulation is a skill.

And before kids can use those skills independently, they often need calm adults to model them first.

That is one of the reasons I created Chill Skills: Let’s Make a P.L.A.N.

They need support, language, practice, and safe adults who can help them learn what to do next.

Children learn what they live!

Before kids can regulate on their own, they often need calm modeled for them first.

Co-regulation is not giving in. It is teaching the mind and body what calm feels like.

I used to think meditation would someday make me feel like I “have it all together.”

More peaceful.
More focused.
Clear mind.

But the longer I practice, the more I realize why I love this meditation rock so much.

It’s cracked.
Uneven.
Imperfect.

Just like my practice.

Some days my mind is calm.
Some days it races.
Some days I sit in stillness.
Some days I spend the whole time starting over.

But I keep coming back because that imperfect returning is where I thrive the most.

The crack in the rock reminds me that peace was never about perfection. The crack is part of what makes it sacred.

After years of it sitting in the background, I added the stone seat as a reminder to always sit in stillness when I can.

I always end my practice with this…
May you be well.
May you be happy and healthy.
May your mind be at ease, your heart filled with joy, and you always find a reason to smile.

Most escalations don’t start with kids.

They start with adults who didn’t pause.

That split-second?
That’s the bell 🔔

In Chill Skills, it shows up as a choice
react… or be mindful.

because reacting is automatic…
but pausing is a skill.

Miss it, and things escalate.
Catch it, and everything shifts.

Save this. Train your pause.

Burnt out?
Managing more than teaching.
Counting down to summer.

I know the feeling.

For I want to give you a gift.
Pause for 10 minutes.

Think about what you love.
About your life.
About children.
About this work that you so passionately show up for.

Come back to it daily.
Let your body, heart, and mind remember.

Because when you speak of love, you make space for it to find you again. ✨

Your child isn’t giving you a hard time… they’re having one.

That shift changes everything.

Next time, PAUSE and ask:
“What’s going on right now?”

Watch how that changes the conversation.

How do you respond to your child’s behavior?

Pinksocks changed the way my students show up.

Not because they’re socks…
but because of what they represent.

Every Monday, my students wear them as a reminder why we show up for each other here.

It’s about belonging.

I’ve watched students who were struggling become the ones lifting others up.

Encouraging each other.
Checking in.
Celebrating small wins.

Community is built in simple, shared moments that say,
“you matter here.”

That’s the heart behind everything in Chill Skills.

Connection and relationships first, always.

Grateful for .life for being part of that story lifting up our community. 💗
