💵 A budgeting throwback that still hits today
I stumbled across a desk diary from 1963, and the budgeting advice was surprisingly… timeless, but a few things have shifted.
Back then, a “modern” family budget included line items for education, recreation, medical, church, charity, gifts, auto, dues, entertaining, music, and books.
And for a family of two? Those categories combined were more than the food budget.
Some things never change:
We’re still juggling priorities, planning for growth, and trying to make smart decisions with the resources we have.
In business, we look at numbers like this constantly — hiring, benefits, forecasting, and long‑term sustainability all come down to how well we plan.
So I’m curious:
How does your business break down its budget?
Do you keep a dedicated rainy‑day fund, or do you build flexibility into every category?
Drop your approach below — I love seeing how different leaders structure their financial strategies!
