My dad always said, “Measure twice, cut once.”

Perhaps that same method applies to school leadership: “Listen twice, decide once.”
✅ Gather input from teachers, students, and families
✅ Check the data
✅ Reflect before acting
✅ Reflect and evaluate after acting

Rushed decisions can splinter trust. Thoughtful ones build strong schools.

I am so grateful to have a dad who loved to build things and continues to teach us his skills to this day. I also inherited his ability to make my eyes disappear every time I share a big smile. Needless to say, our eyes disappear alot.

What advice did a parent or loved one give you that often comes to mind?

I don't know about you, but after watching the trend toward lower teaching standards, I'm concerned. I understand the urgent need for more teachers to fill classroom positions.
Lowering standards creates more of a long-term problem as it can dramatically impact the quality of the classroom teacher and, subsequently, student learning.
Instead, let's think about WHY teachers are leaving a profession they spent time and money to get into; many of these folks took a traditional route to become a certified teacher.
Based on my research with state dept. data, we have plenty of certified teachers.
They just don't want to teach. THAT is the problem that needs addressing.

Here’s why they fall short:
