Today is Global PNH Awareness Day.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare, acquired blood disorder, and flow cytometry is a key part of how laboratories approach PNH testing.

To mark the day, we're sharing a short micro-learning video: "Lessons From Implementing the DryFlowEx PNH High-Sensitivity Assay," presented by Helena Varela de Araujo, SCYMP(ASCP). It's a quick look at practical experience from bringing this assay into a lab workflow.

Go behind the scenes of the flight. 🎥

1,000 kilometers. Several hours over the Alaskan wilderness. Blood samples aboard a Windracers autonomous heavy-lift drone, with a matched control group waiting on the ground.

Sysmex America joined the International Testing Agency (ITA) and the Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration (ACUASI) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks to explore whether samples can keep their integrity when transported long distances by air. After landing, both sample groups were analyzed side by side on Sysmex XN-Series technology in a satellite lab built inside an airport hangar.

The study was designed for anti-doping, but the possibilities go further: faster access to diagnostics for patients in the world’s most remote communities.

The ITA plans to submit the findings for peer-reviewed publication, with results to follow once the scientific evaluation is complete.
