Through the use of proprietary parts and services, it's becoming more difficult to choose your own mechanic, or to fix it yourself. Or to have the option of aftermarket parts.
The Repair Act also known as the Right to Repair is a bill headed to congress to make sure we as the consumer can work on our own cars or make our own choice as to who and where we take our vehicles for repairs. So instead of the dealership forcing you to go to them because of proprietary software, fluids, tools, repair info, etc, they need to at least give us access to the bare minimum to make it so we can fix and maintain our cars DIY or take it to a private shop. I truly believe you shouldn’t be forced to go to one place to fix your car, you should have the choice of who you trust with your vehicle maintenance and repairs.
