“I know relationships matter, but I can’t keep spending this much time networking without knowing whether it’s working.”

What if you don’t need to network more?

More events. More one-to-ones. More contacts. More follow-up.

None of that automatically creates stronger referral relationships.

What if what you actually need is a strategy for knowing which relationships to deepen, how to show up, and what happens next?

That’s what we’ll work on inside NIA Connection Academy.

It’s a six-session, interactive experience designed to help you build a relationship-based business development strategy that works with your goals, time, energy, and the relationships you already have.

Our next Connection Academy begins September 15, and we have a few spots left.

People rarely come right out and say, “I need a mortgage lender” or “I need a financial advisor.”

They say things like:
“We’d love to move, but we don’t know what’s possible.”
“I know something in my business needs to change, but I don’t know where to begin.”

“I’m doing well, but I’m carrying too much of the operation myself.”

Those little statements tell us a lot, if we’re paying attention.
We call them Statement Triggers, and that’s what we’ll be exploring in our September NIA meetings.

Not so we can listen for an opportunity to sell something. So we can get curious.

Ask another question. Understand what’s really going on. And, when it makes sense, connect someone with a person we trust who may be able to help. I think that's a much better way to build relationships.

If you'd like to experience one of our September conversations, send me a message and I'll help you find a NIA Minnesota meeting that works for you.

When I think about the opportunities that have shaped my business, I don't think about the biggest networking event I've attended. I think about a handful of relationships.

People who took the time to get to know me.
People who stayed connected.
People who trusted me enough to make an introduction because they knew how I showed up.

It reminds me that building a business isn't always about knowing more people.

Sometimes it's about knowing a few people really well.
Those relationships are worth investing in.

Do you agree or disagree, is that the relationships worth investing in?

For a long time, I thought growing my business meant meeting more people.

More networking events. More coffee meetings. More connections.

But when I look back, the relationships that have had the biggest impact on my business didn't come from constantly meeting someone new. They came from staying connected with the right people.

The second conversation.
The follow-up.
The unexpected check-in months later.

That's where trust grows. And trust is what leads to referrals, partnerships, and opportunities that actually last.

Sometimes the next opportunity isn't in the next room. It's already in your network.

I'm excited to be partnering with the Centennial Area Chamber for a Lunch & Learn later this month.

We'll be talking about something I'm really passionate about.
What if growing your business isn't about networking more?
What if it's about building relationships in a way that feels intentional, genuine, and sustainable?

If you've ever left a networking event wondering, "Now what?" this conversation is for you. I'd love to have you join us.

Some of the best opportunities in business don't happen because of one great meeting.

They happen because someone remembers you months or even years later.

Relationships have a way of growing over time when we stay connected, show up consistently, and genuinely care about the people we meet.

That's why I believe networking isn't about collecting contacts.

It's about building relationships worth keeping.

The people with the strongest business networks usually aren't the ones meeting the most people.

They're the ones who stay connected.

They send the quick text. They check in after a big milestone. They celebrate someone's success. They make time for another conversation instead of assuming one meeting was enough.

Those small moments are what turn introductions into real relationships.

Who's someone you haven't talked to in a while that comes to mind today?

Being a guest on The CEO Shift was a great reminder that some of the best conversations happen when we slow down and talk about what really matters.

One of the questions I was asked was what makes networking actually work.

My answer wasn't about having the perfect elevator pitch or collecting business cards.

It's about building relationships where people know you, trust you, and genuinely want to see you succeed.

That's what I've experienced throughout my career, and it's exactly why I love leading NIA Minnesota.

If you listen to the episode, I'd love to hear what stood out to you.

I don't think most networking falls short because people aren't trying.

I think it falls short because life gets busy.

You meet someone, have a great conversation, promise to stay in touch... and then weeks turn into months.

The conversation ends before the relationship has a chance to begin.

I've found that the real value isn't in meeting someone new. It's in taking the time to reconnect.

Is there someone you've been meaning to reach out to?

One of my favorite moments from this week's meetings had nothing to do with a referral or a presentation.

It was watching people pick up conversations they'd started weeks ago. They remembered what someone had been working on, asked how things turned out, and celebrated wins together.

It reminded me that relationships aren't built in a single meeting. They're built in the conversations that continue long after the meeting ends.

Who do you need to check in with this week?
