On the campus of St. Cloud State University, where a mystery leak is getting into the sump pump basement building. After a quick survey and correlation, the readings led us to a 4-inch water main that was installed in 1918! Water had not surfaced except through the basement drain tile until we operated the valves. We were able to pinpoint this leak using the ground mic. A great find on a classic campus!

Water may be surfacing outside but the source of that leak could be coming from anywhere. Zach and Jack recently found a couple of examples that seemed like a normal break surfacing in the street. After a quick search, they were able to locate frozen interior pipes that were creating quite the mess!

The bitter cold made for a particularly busy weekend, highlighted by this traveller in North St. Paul. Water surfaced out of an electrical duct on McKnight Rd. After listening to nearby hydrants and detecting no leak noise, we knew the leak was not close to where it was surfacing.

After started searching uphill, we were able find a few hydrants with good noise . From there it just took a few set ups with the correlator and we were able to successfully pinpoint it just over 1,000 ft east!

Huge thank you to all the water operators enduring this cold to ensure our utilities systems continue to operate safely and smoothly!

Tom raised some eyebrows with this locate when his mark was 150 ft from the water surfacing. It was critical for an accurate locate with nearly 4.5 ft of frost in the road, in subzero temperatures . Even the leaks that seem obvious can be deceiving. How much do you think the contractor and city saved by calling for a locate on this traveler?

This morning, Jack responded to a suspected main break in South St. Paul, trusting his instincts to follow the water when circumstances seemed inconsistent. His diligence led to the finding of a hose spigot spraying water and flooding the rear of a residence. Our expertise extends beyond merely detecting migratory leaks or concealed breaks, as we offer a unique perspective on situations where the obvious may not be obvious.

Today was a busy day, highlighted by a break in Richfield. The 8-inch main ran through a narrow side street, then veered through several yards before reaching the next valve, which made pinpointing the leak more challenging. Fortunately, we were equipped with the right tools, and the ground microphone proved invaluable in locating the leak. As a result, we were able to save both the city and the contractor significant time and cost on the repair.
