One thing remains constant in life and that is CHANGE.
Over the past several months there have been some of those changes taking place in Lisco, NE. The biggest change of all is that we have decided to downsize our sow herd this fall, so we will have a herd reduction sale on October 14th via showpig.com.
The majority of our current sow herd will be offered, breds and opens, gilts and sows, with the exception of a small number of purebred and crossbred sows owned by the SD Kids.
Opportunities like this don’t come around often, this sow herd is built on a foundation of decades of passion and persistence to make show pigs better. Most of the time we have grown from within and rarely have we done the popular thing. Dancing to the beat of our own drum has created a sow herd that is a breath of fresh air to a lot and we know there’s a lot of value in these females for the next owners.
___
We are sure a lot of people will probably be asking why. Believe it or not it’s not that juicy of a reason; we just simply don’t want to do it on this scale anymore.
Our kids are growing up and starting to chase their own dreams and passions. We want to make them our priority and have a front seat for all of that.
Our passion for raising showpigs has been overtaken by off farm careers; and it’s hard to do things on a large scale if you aren’t on the farm.
___
The greatest CHANGE usually comes when you take a deep look into yourself and your reason why; and ours is growing up right before our eyes.
This industry is forever changing and it requires more in terms of time, customer management, finances, and most of all sacrifices, which we just don’t want to give anymore.
We still plan to raise and sell show pigs, however we plan to take a different seat to watch the industry and our own kids hang banners.
